Usually when someone is blasting music in the parking lot at this hour it’s really bad but someone is currently playing Mingus at full volume and I’m curiously down with this.

Grumpy but nice. I promise. I believe in CWs and hashtags, so you can set your filters accordingly.

If good people die too soon and bad people die too late, what kind of people is William Shatner?

I bought a nice merino cardigan off of eBay and the seller did not disclose that it came from a smoking household. Does anyone have any good suggestions for getting the cigarette smell out? I'd like to avoid laundering it if at all possible, but that may be the final answer. #laundry

Whoa just had a major flashback and ended a text convo with Keillor’s “And that’s the news from Lake Woebegone, where the women are tall, the men are good looking and the children are above average” 😵💫

I wonder if Apple ever thought about not having eight different alerts to update e-mail settings all pop up at the same time upon upgrading a device.

I imagine it's difficult not to do given what Axios’ format is, but I'd really like them and frankly all media outlets to stop taking “centrist" Democratic talking points at face value. Letting Gottheimer just mouth off that DSA rhetoric is "anti-American” without qualifying that is no better than what Republicans say about the entirety of the Democratic party. Talk about cutting off your hand to spite your face.

@wheeljack@retro.pizza I always find it interesting that the media doesn't even go to "centrist" Democrats but always the most blue doggiest borderline red Democrats that come out of the woodwork whenever this type of story comes up. Like who even are these people??

Been having a couple of days where I feel utterly overwhelmed at having to do my job and also do the stuff of life at the same time. How do people do it all?

I really wanted You're Killing Me to follow along in the vein of Harry Wild and continue to solidify Acorn as the new home of this type of light mystery show, but the pilot is a hefty slog. If I hear one more generational humor joke…

I think I’m just used to Nigella is more…sensual…setups, so seeing her in the “wholesome” GBBO is an interesting juxtaposition. Also, I see they are making her into the cake guru like they made Prue. Only men can make bread!
Also not to be judgy but ...wait it’s Paul Hollywood so I don’t give a fuck. Pretty certain dude is on a GLP-1 and it shows.

Defrosting the fridge is so much fun! We should do it every year!
Said absolutely no one ever. Here's hoping that it solved the fan noise issue, but not an experience I would repeat again.

He has the privilege of a sizable canvas upon which to enact his platform, and it's probably fair to also look to other less well funded or PR-savvy politicians and what they're doing as well. But man what I wouldn't give for him to be my mayor.

@sbattey@pnw.zone I like the default app but depending on the platform you're using it can be a real crapshoot sometimes (I'm sure there are server factors that also affect it). I've gotten good mileage out of keeping Infuse around, particularly for 4K playback if I need it. But I'd really just like Plex to smooth out the rough patches in the tvOS app.

Watching a 30 for 30 episode about Joey Chestnut v. Kobayashi Takeru and it's a reminder that I still can't passively listen to Japanese as well as I'd like but I can completely zone out for the English stuff and stay on top of the narrative flow

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
I don't have an objection to the character or the character being on the show per se but does the Farragut ever complain that Kirk spends all his time not being on the Farragut? Does the Farragut have no adventures of its own?

@ptburly@woof.group I have a certain level of tolerance but there are a lot of quality of life stuff that makes that gray area between n64 and ps2 really rough depending. I don’t think anyone really figured out how to master the independently moving camera until the ps3 generation at least, so I can get really motion sick from that early 3D stuff. And some of the really old pc gaming stuff feels like a lot of waiting. But hidden gems everywhere

@QsBoyfriend@tenforward.social I have the hunch that it’s one of the reasons he is the most popular movie director these days. So much of his productions are designed to make you feel rather than think. Every film has some explanation of the gimmick that doesn’t make sense in or out of the world of the film if you push on it too much, but it’s just comprehensible enough that the audience can not pay attention and pretend like they can follow what’s going on, and thus feel smart for having “gotten” it.

Maybe if acclaimed Hollywood film director Christopher Nolan himself communicates what is wrong with tvtropes as a manner of critique the first-year students who drive me up the wall with this false equivalency will figure it out. I have faith.

@motoridersd@pug.ninja buzz was that it was about the prosthetic nose. But also iirc Julianne Moore was splitting the vote with herself; this was the same year as Far from Heaven and I think she was nominated in best actress for that and best supporting actress for The Hours. I haven’t seen Unfaithful, but I don’t think Zellweger was gonna win for Chicago due to the biases of the academy sadly

@germ@deletethis.lol look germ the alternative is two hours of mundane mediocre fetch quests in order to advance one plot point interspersed with 30 second unskippable cutscenes you’ll be slamming a button on constantly and impotently because the realm was reborn~

Just thought I'd give Resident Evil a shot and I'm finding the real horror of this game is the entire early PS1 days controller scheme. What do you mean the controls are forward backwards spin spin?!
