Ashamed to say that I never knew who Fred Hampton was or understood his impact until I was an adult.
History that isn’t taught is history that didn’t happen. The FBI, in collusion with the Chicago Police Department, assassinated Fred Hampton on this day in 1969. We can only imagine what kind of world we would be experiencing had he lived:

There’s no degree needed to be barefoot and pregnant. This fiat is just another way to force women out of the workforce and get back to the home/hearth where they belong.
He is dismantling decades of civil rights.
Women are either whores or saints in his eyes. The whores are there for him & his ilk to own/discard, and the saints are there to incubate their (preferably) male offspring.

One point: the article mentions the lack of/dearth of Black and brown faces among the crowd, rhetorically asking, “where are they?” To which I would answer, they’ve been telling us yt folx for YEARS and showing up. This is our fight. We have created this mess, and it’s on us with privilege to take our turn at showing up.
