[🚨 #MediaWiki vulnerable extension]

If you are running a MediaWiki instance with Extension:External_Data < v3.7, your instance is vulnerable to arbitrary file loading and #RemoteCodeExecution.

The vulnerability was apparently publicly known since August, but due to the lack of communication, instance admins learned about it due to that vulnerability being exploited en masse.

If you know and like a MediaWiki instance, you can check their Special:Version page to see if they are using the External_Data extension to warn them.

Yesterday, I was helping someone with their unresponsive #android smartphone: they had bought it new 3 years ago, and were already considering buying a new one given how slow it had become. Turns out, if you delete all the preinstalled bloatware and disable that fucking #Gemini that Google is trying to push down everyone's throat, it can be all snappy again! That last point is no small feat though: disabling Gemini is the new Where is Waldo 😵‍💫 #MutualAid #FreeTechnicalSupport #Enshittification #ZeroWaste

The fact that I was doing it in a place where people know me, or where people know the place and trust that they wouldn't have platformed someone they don't trust (transitive trust), was important I think.

@rosano@mastodon.online so the local non-profit bar, le Cause Toujours https://lecausetoujours.fr/ organizes twice a year a garage sale on the nearby marketplace, while the inside of the bar is used as a freeshop ("zone de gratuité"). I offered to run a free tech support booth, which was warmly accepted, and that's pretty much it :) I was thinking to also do that sometimes on a market, to reach a different crowd, but I guess this requires some kind of authorization, I need to look into it. cc @douginamug@mastodon.xyz
