@Fellingshaeuser In The Netherlands it's actually 100 KM between 06.00-19.00. Only outside that timeframe it's 130.

@scott What's an ethical AI user? A user that doesn't use GenAI?

@stux Animals in captivity are *not* ‘adorable’.

@bagder Yes, just add more hardware, so more electricity is needed. That's fine, because we have unlimited amounts of it. SET SARCASME OFF; In my country (The Netherlands) the electricity net is so full, that we can't connect much more businesses and/or (new) houses. What would have caused that? Mmmmh. Maybe 45 datacentres (for AI) in a small country? #noai

@alextecplayz @scott It's not only about stolen IP. It's also the gigantic resource costs.

@Vivaldi Surprised not to see the Norwegian @runbox included ...

@MarkHoltom And don't buy a (new) 'Volvo'. Volvo isn't that Swedish company anymore. It's now just a brand name owned by a Chinese company.

@voorstad@mastodon.nl @RWSverkeersinfo@social.overheid.nl @koen@procolix.social Goed bezig?

Mastodon / Bluesky is, relatief gezien, extreem klein. Instagram?

@regendans@todon.eu @voorstad@mastodon.nl @RWSverkeersinfo@social.overheid.nl @koen@procolix.social Dat is m.i. nog méér ongeloofwaardig. Waar een wil is, is een weg. Twitter is hun hoofd kanaal.

@brucelawson It's impossible to support old hardware, and don't worry because Bezos cares much about the earth! #sarcasmhttps://www.bezosearthfund.org/

@stux@mstdn.social @firefoxwebdevs@mastodon.social Read first before you react. Mozilla opposes the *API*.

@runbox Last week Fastmail introduced MCP as an option, with which AI agents have full access to all user data (emails, contacts and calendar). Because email is an open (un-encrypted) protocol I cannot fully control if my emails are read by AI when the recipient uses AI. What I don't want is that my email provider will make it *easy* for AI agents by offering MCP (or other AI access protocols). So I will stop using Fastmail and am considering going back to Runbox. BUT, that depends on if you will not one day do the same as Fastmail? Or will you stay always true to the privacy claims, and *not* make it easy for AI to access data your user's data? #noai #runbox

@mannivu@livellosegreto.it @mapcar@mastodon.sdf.org @seyfr@mastodon.social @warandpeas@mastodon.social Yes, I know, but that will take a long time. The only real European search index I know of is Mojeek.

@xChaos @lisamelton Ah yes, Arachne! I actually used it! Memories :).

@osma Don't agree. Many parents don't care. Governments don't allow children to smoke, so why not put a ban on SM for children?

@Tutanota@mastodon.social And, more importantly the quality of alternative apps is currently not that good; e.g. compare the desktop app of Ente with Apple Photos; it's a huge difference.

@MichalJanda@mastodonczech.cz @vnkr@mastodon.social I disagree. I’m moving to Midagu.

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Yeah, could be, but to be honest, it costs a lot more than f.e. the all in one (mail, storage, photos) price 2,99/month that Apple charges. I would be fine if that would be 5 or 6 euro, but it's really a lot more.

@vnkr@mastodon.social What exactly don't you understand about what I'm saying? Are you saying that the blog article says that they don't provide a way for AI services to access their customer's mail? Yes, it's optional. But many people, at least those around me, don't (yet) realize the dangers of AI. They see it as something fantastic. Fastmail should protect customers from mistakes they might regret later. Just like no longer allowing unsecured ports for SMTP/IMAP. Fastmail claims to be a privacy-focused service. That isn't evident here. That is what I'm trying to say. You're talking to a Fastmail user from day one here (= 25 years).

@runbox @EMDiscussions I can't find any price/account comparison on your (quite slow) website? Only price 'examples'.

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Fastmail just announced that they have added MCP support, so that AI can access your mail. How nuts is that for a 'privacy focused' email service. So I've decided to migrate. Maybe to your service, but I have to be sure that you'll never allow AI to access my data, no matter if I want that voluntarily. For me it's fundamentally wrong to add such access, even when it's optionally. #noAI

@wbpeckham @mike Oh yes of course, because Vivaldi is a non-AI browser (….). #sarcasme

@mayank I disagree with most of this article. "These days, though, native is as bad as the web, if not worse." Really? Is this article meant to be funny? Is Teams really better, or as good as, native Signal and/or Apple Messages? Really?

@jef@mastodon.social On a positive note, the color blends in nicely with the environment. #sarcasm

@fastmail@mastodon.social MCP? Is this an April 1 joke? Really? And you're saying that privacy is important? That's it for me. I'm out. @Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net @jon@social.vivaldi.net#noAI

@obsidian@mas.to Are you using AI (agents) for this? If yes, is our code safe from AI stealing it (for 'learning purposes')? #noAI

@EMDiscussions @runbox Well, from some perspective I see that as a positive thing. Like Richard Hipp says about C: "The C language is old and boring.", meaning that something that isn't changed often, might be actually what you want. Email is also "old". What I want is a stable service, with the standard needed (access) options as a minimum. Some things shouldn't be touched, like allowing AI to access user data.

@seyfr@mastodon.social @warandpeas@mastodon.social But what do you use now then?

@mapcar@mastodon.sdf.org @seyfr@mastodon.social @warandpeas@mastodon.social Qwant doesn’t have their own search index and, just as Ecosia, uses Bing/Google.

@Gargron So much better than those computer animated ones.

@gedeonm Oh boy. I'll do and the subscription also. Thx.

@Daojoan You lost me at "a set of AI tools".

@gedeonm@mastodon.social I hope you didn't order it through AliExpress as this plagiarism was made by exploited wage slaves. Ethical buying is important, not so much for yourself, but very important for others. Cheap comes with a cost.
