Meshy (@meshy@mstdn.social) is in the Debian testing and unstable repos now. Nice! 😀 https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/meshy #Meshcore #meshy

I just tried 9front for the first time and I feel like I have never used a computer before.
Sometimes I tell myself that I will work carefully, no matter how long it will take, but then I get impatient and things get messy. Luckily the main board did not break and when the RF modulator was finally removed, adding the HD-64 HDMI board was a breeze. I my opinion it was really worth it. The video output is really crisp and I need considerably less cables compared to the external converter I used before. Also no lag! 🙂 #commodore64 #c64 #hd64
Yes, I admit: My understanding of how transistors work comes from the instructions for an electronics experiment kit from my childhood and I still visualise this picture when thinking about transistors today. (Source: https://archive.org/details/kosmos-electronic-x-1000/page/27/mode/1up)
I found these depressed ghosts in my neighborhood today. There are probably more. #braunschweig #streetArt #ghost
When the kid connected his iPhone to the infotainment system via bluetooth and I accidentally connected my phone to Android Auto via USB at the same time.

@Fynn @fdroidorg @marcprux Android has lost its appeal to me as a target for development. I also may order a Jolla Phone at home point, but I need to be sure that my banking apps work with it.

This is the trackball I used to replace the original one: https://aliexpress.com/item/32808565863.html

@iris@neuromatch.social @merlin@toot.kif.rocks I do, but I also spent a year as an exchange student at an American high school half a life ago. Dr Pepper also tastes a bit unusual to Germans, but it's much easier to find than root beer.

@philipnorton42 I didn't even try the original one after reading about the poor performance before buying the uConsole. Luckily there is enough information available online to avoid many pitfalls.
Goodbye old bass. I bought you 30 years ago on a flea market and your neck was warped back then already. Playing you was a struggle, but feeling the waves travel through my whole body was worth it. I never managed to give you the attention you deserved and now you are the first one I let go. Have a good trip to Sardinia! #bass #cimar

@Hundstrasse@retro.pizza I wish I was able to do that, but I move my head involuntarily all the time while playing. 😂

@Hundstrasse@retro.pizza I own the launch model of the 3DS and 3D only works for me if I don't move the screen too much while playing. That's the reason why I turn off 3D most of the time. 😥

@cos I wouldn't be surprised if they used the data to find out more about their user base, which would be a violation of European data protection laws. I have not investigated how the data is used, but the fact that I more or less expect this from Mozilla is very telling, unfortunately.
I used to name my computers after characters from J. D. Salinger's stories. I remember Holden, Phoebe and Seymour. Now I name them after characters from the Alien films. My current laptop is called Ripley and my next computer will be called Vasquez. I have no idea what that says about me.

@janbeta@chaos.social I really enjoy watching Bacchus of Fairlight talk about cracking on https://youtube.com/@FairLight1337/ every now and then, but at the same time I know that cracking is not for me. I just don't have the patience or the dedication to go through other people's disassembled machine code.

@FREEZE64 I already watched "Predator" and "Predator 2" this week to prepare myself for this issue. 👽

@FREEZE64 I never owned a ZX Spectrum, but I love that the graphics have their own distinct aesthetics. My 12 year old me (C64 kid) would have made fun of the color palette, but nowadays I can appreciate the uniqueness of the graphics and I have to admit that rectangular pixels aren't exactly the best either. 😉

@scops Very tempting, but I will probably use what I got for now. I also remembered that I have an old Nokia LD-3W GPS receiver with Bluetooth which I haven't used in ages. I just tried using it and the NMEA data I get from it is fairly easy to parse and contains date and time. I may use it just for the heck of it. It won't work inside, but on the other hand, I can always use my phone as a WiFi hotspot and get time and date via NTP.

@FREEZE64 As far as I know, more people from the East have moved to the West than the other way around.
@FREEZE64 It is still possible to see the effects of the Division of Germany on the map. Most subscribers are located in what used to be West Germany, where you could just walk into a regular computer shop to buy a C64. When the wall fell in November 1989, the C64 was probably not very interesting for many people anymore.

@scops So far I hace only used it with WiFi enabled. I guess I will also have to look into adding an RTC.

If you live in Europe and want to buy a uConsole, I can recommend https://rpishop.cz I received the package after just a few days for an OK price. ClockworkPi usually needs several months for shipping and buying from the scalpers at Aliexpress was out of the question. I bought the extension board from https://www.tindie.com/products/wtdstore/uether/ and received it super quick. (I'm not getting paid for this post. 😉)

@philipnorton42 I may buy some of the Hackergadgets parts at some point in the future. Right now I am happy with the uConsole the way it is, but upgrading it for more CPU power and an SSD sounds tempting. I have not tried LoRa yet, but it sounds interesting. I have already installed DOSBox, but I have not used it yet. I have only played the C64 version of Giana Sisters in vice. I used a gamepad since I did not get the keyboard mapping right yet.

If you will attend #39c3 and you want your #PSLab board to be flashed with the latest firmware, contact me or meet me at the @fossasia@floss.social assembly (https://events.ccc.de/congress/2025/hub/de/assembly/detail/fossasia). I will most probably also host a workshop, but I don't know the time and date yet.
If you're at FOSSASIA and would like to find out more about Pocket Science Lab or our Google Summer of Code projects, contact me and we will find a place to chat and have a drink (optional).

@scops No RTC on the expansion card. I guess the OS gets time and date via NTP. I haven't thought about that yet.

Nicht ganz meine Musik, aber wegen meiner "Moby Dick"-Macke damals gerne reingehört. Jetzt Konzert fast um die Ecke von zu Hause, aber ich kann an dem Tag leider nicht. 😥
