if you don't verify you're over 18:
browsers will block 'adult' websites - this appears to affect all browsers (not just safari) and can't be circumvented via a VPN, it seems to be blocked at the webview level
if you use safari extensions, you can't configure them any more
a little red notification badge on the settings icon until you verify

oh, and the officially supported verification methods are:

final update on this
i wiped my iPad and downgraded it to 26.3 and restored my apps/etc from a backup
settings is still prompting me to verify my age for some reason, but it's no longer locking me out of things for having not verified

@pathunstrom i run some of my websites from a rented digitalocean droplet, it's just a linux box and i'm responsible for keeping it patched and configuring my webserver software of choice and so on
i consider this to be self-hosting at least in a spiritual "i'm the one doing 90% of the work" sense even though i don't own the physical hardware it's running on
