At CWTS, we see scholarly publishing as a collective responsibility. In the blog post on our Scholarly Communication Policy, Wolfgang Kaltenbrunner. @parrhesiastic@akademienl.social & @LudoWaltman@social.cwts.nl reflect on this perspective, share our process for developing this policy, and aim to encourage other institutions to implement a similar approach.

CWTS has developed a Scholarly Communication Policy that treats publishing as a collective responsibility rather than an individual choice. In this blog post, we introduce the policy, reflect on its co-creation, and invite other institutions to consider adopting a similar approach.

AI is rapidly reshaping scientific practice, but universities still lack clear governance frameworks for its responsible use.

Our latest blog post by Laurens Hessels examines why universities must take an active role in regulating AI use in science and safeguarding research integrity, reliability, and independence.

Dutch universities need to quickly establish standards or guidelines for the responsible use of generative AI in research. Currently, individual researchers carry too much responsibility. What do integrity, reliability, and independence mean when using AI, and how can we safeguard these values?

🎓 Over the past few years, 'research culture' has become a key concept and an object of research governance, but what it means exactly often remains unclear.

🔎 In our new blog post, Wolfgang Kaltenbrunner proposes a way for giving the concept greater analytical substance and proposes to consider research culture as a politics of uncertainty.

As research culture increasingly becomes an object of governance, it also raises important conceptual questions. Based on a pitch at the Research Cultures in Transition Roundtable (STS NL 2026, University of Twente), this post proposes one way to give the concept greater analytical substance.
