It hurts and stings so much that our presumable leaders and representatives like von der Leyen completely ignore the Fediverse and Mastodon for years and years and then immediately jump on this scam artist social without even vetting it properly.

I stumbled on this amazing french audio book project when I was looking to buy the Comte de Montecristo.
It would be so great to start an audio book project for Swedish audio books and get funding from donations and perhaps Swedish government and culture foundations to pay for proper recordings. Primarily paying the readers/actors a proper fee.

There is certainly merit to your perspective, but I don't think we can regard "the EU" and it's officials as a monolith with one single purpose and will.
They're fragmented and pulling in different directions like the society they represent. So our job is to support and nurture what is good and help that flourish. Such as their participation in an open information system.

The marketing people who have the say in these matters, still get to serve their imagined audience this way, so they can't use that old tired argument of why we shouldn't do the right thing for our societies and democracies.
If you're in a position of leadership this is a perfect opportunity to lead and show the way. Our representatives aren't put there to follow the herd passively

@cassidy@mastodon.blaede.family i too struggle to understand why people recommend Signal from Mountain View, CA in the context of European digital sovereignty. That won't help stimulate a European digital marketplace of excellent services under our own jurisdiction and tax code.
It seems to be an amazing app, so it's not an issue of whether you like it. It's still US software.
