We made this chocolate cake the other day and it is probably one of the best chocolate cakes I’ve ever had. It is flourless — and made with black beans. Absolutely bonkers how good it is. So moist. https://www.thepancakeprincess.com/flourless-black-bean-chocolate-cake-gluten-free/

Is it bad to point out that most of the PHP.net infrastructure was moved to Digital Ocean?

RE: https://cosocial.ca/@emd/117003166201654599 Not really my community (although it almost was), but the Laravel leadership always gave me car-dealership-owner vibes, so an embrace of DHH is not surprising.

Enjoying see old friends and meeting new people at #laraconus, but very disappointed that Taylor is proud to announce that he & DHH will be sharing a stage soon. And getting huge applause for that. We can do better folks!

Someone used my Linode referral code to sign up, which means I got a $25 credit, which would have been nice if I hadn't stopped using Linode two years ago.

Watching a staging deployment script run all of our #Django migrations and thinking it’s probably time to learn how to squash them.

@ilia@phpc.social As others have pointed out, pmj insisted that the political reasoning be made explicit. (I won’t speculate on why he seems to think I was ever ashamed of my very political stance on this.) The tell is that your vote on the principle that politics should not have been mentioned is to pick the “no” side in the politics of it. The “abstain” option was right there.

And in two weeks, this vote will be over and I can choose to ignore any related issues for as long as I want because, as a straight white man, I can act like politics don’t exist at any time without much trouble. I mean, I could be cutting myself off from the contributions of the people those politics do impact, but that’s really just the status quo, so I can claim it’s not a political choice to stay that way.

@denniskoch@phpc.social I can’t remember if it was March or another month, but one of the line items on the invoice was about writing documentation. Which is strange, because the applications for the PHP foundation positions has always said that working on documentation is something they don’t consider. It doesn’t seem like they ever announced the slate of core developers for 2026 and what they’d be working on, which I thought was something they used to do. Anyway, probably nothing to worry about.

@polotek@social.polotek.net I think having come from this world of releasing software as a physical product makes my experience with estimating and deadlines abnormal in an era dominated by engineers who have come of age releasing online.

@polotek@social.polotek.net I think I learned the theory of different models of software development in college (early 90s, so pre-agile) and estimation was probably part of those. My first job out of college was for an educational/games company (CD-ROM releases!) and they definitely put a lot of effort into generating estimates and deriving deadlines from those. I can’t put a finger on how I learned to do it or how well I did it, but as I got promoted to team lead on a project it was certainly part of what I did. There was an expectation that we would get better at it individually and organizationally, but also an understanding that it was hard.

@AndresFreundTec Am I understanding correctly that these were sshd processes fending off the deluge of bogus logins that any publicly accessible sshd has to contend with? If so, good thing you weren’t testing on a more isolated machine.

Our washer/dryer was showing an error message after running. The error message describes a drain error. It's being shown on a seven-segment LCD display. There's a different error message that shows as “dE” that indicates a door error. Is the error code for the drain error "OE" or "DE”?

Trying to come up with side hustle that I could work 10-12/hours month to pay for medical bills and the occasional Dodgers tickets. I guess here's an Upwork profile for now. https://www.upwork.com/freelancers/~01be060a532ece41c9

RE: @lproven@social.vivaldi.net

I think about this sort of thing all the time, particularly in wondering about how small of a Linux environment I could put together. I am sure most of that is just chasing old highs.

But I have no space in my life for computer-related hobbies right now.

It's too bad computer prices have gotten stupid and I don't have spare cash. It would be really nice to get something to do local development on that is in-between my Raspberry Pi 4 and the Dell PowerEdge T30 under my desk.

(I should really try to sell that T30.)

We just opened the job listing for another mid/sr. full-stack engineer at the startup where I'm the director of engineering. It's a hybrid position, so you'll need to be able to come into the office in Santa Monica at least three days per week. Tech stack is Next.js and Python/Django.

I came to this very late for someone who moved to #DTLA over 20 years ago in part due to Grand Central Market, but the tacos at Tacos Tumbras a Tomas are an incredible value. $5 for a taco that is a meal by itself. https://grandcentralmarket.com/vendor/tacos-tumbras-a-tomas/
