Came across a really neat #AppKit API today for NSSearchField. In macOS 26, you can give it an array of example-searches that it will animate through when
- the field is the first responder/in focus
- the field is still empty
This is great for things like a maps/location search to show how specific or generic search terms can be.
The property to set is `placeholderStrings` (plural)

Given that the display on the iPod Photo was so tiny, flat UI would had been okay for it but even with the UI it actually got, it still looks so good, classy, and high-end even 22 years later. 😮💨🤩🕺
I feel like a lot of modern Mac apps were designed with this mobile-ux mentality so for items that should open in a new window, they open in a model instead -- when they don't need to. Mac apps are best when they take advantage of multiple windows if/when appropriate.
AHHHH Look what just got here!!!

And it’s a 4 day weekend for me!! 😁
Time to party it up. Dance 💃🪩🕺

I might break away from the “Welcome to” or “What’s new” splash screens for my Mac apps and do something like this instead. 😄
~20 years apart. Numbers ‘08 vs Numbers v15.3.
Here you can compare iWork ’06 vs iWork ’08 design.
I think iWork ’08/’09 (very similar design) were my favorites. They had peak productivity-app design.
Someone needs to recreate these Tutorial splash screens for iWork ‘08. They're so nice! :)
Contacts #macOSTahoe is so broken. First, the new design sucks. You can no longer change widths between your contacts list & the contact details view.
Second, creating a new contact glitches out resulting in data loss. Here's a video of me trying to make a new contact TWICE; both times losing my data. It also flickers A LOT.
This is Microsoft-level software quality that I would have never expected from Apple. How do you mess up something as simple as contacts?
Guess I gotta fix this app too.
Tradition: 4th of July weekend means I get to have my Mexican Hotdogs. They’re spicy as hell. Chili flakes and jalapeños cooked alongside the onions and hotdogs. Serve with some arroz rojo and bam. Tons of spicy flavors exploding in your mouth. 🤤🌶️
Happy 4th of July celebrations to all who celebrate!!! 🇲🇽🇺🇸🎆
I totally appreciate that things weren't so big, bold, and bubbly back. It used space efficiently and was still totally beautiful ja todella usable.
#QuickTune 7.5 with macOS Tahoe compatibility is now live! Update it from QuickTune or download directly from its webpage.
With all the talk about the iPhone 17 Pro Max being on Artemis II, it wasn't the only time an Apple product made it to space!
In 1991, the STS-41 took a #MacintoshPortable to space to evaluate the suitability of GUIs and other hardware like trackballs in space.
The Macintosh Portable's trackball didn't work well but in STS-43, they took another Macintosh Portable with a modified trackball.
(I think this here is Astronaut William Shepherd using the #Macintosh Portable.)
The argument that vibe-coded apps are fine because people making apps without the use of AI are already bad and buggy is the dumbest defense argument for pro-AI-vibe-coded apps I have heard yet.
