I run a record show in New Orleans called Record Raid
Dad of two small kids.
I also like tech and video games
Looking for something in the front of the house using my phone as a flashlight. I see something in the window
Was that a rat on our fence?
I shine the light through the window. It's not. It's TWO rats fucking on our fence.
I keep a Facebook profile for promotion of my radio show. I check it because it's still the best way to find news for bands that I follow. It's not a personal account, I only follow a page attached to another promotional account.
It will not stop putting suggested conservative pages on my feed. I'll tell it "stop showing me things like this" and it'll show me the exact same page later.
This is Mastodon so I know y'all know this, but FB is propaganda.
This is so cool. This guy has been making this imaginary map for ages, and his actions in building and editing it are dictated by a system decided by a deck of cards. Looks amazing.
Discovered a retro arcade deep in Kenner, Louisiana that I'd never heard of! Mostly popular games and condition isn't always great, but the New Orleans area has been very lacking in that category.
These are my submissions for @gbstudiocentral@pocketpixels.club 's GB Camera Jam. I had a lot of fun.
Descriptions in the alt text but I prefer you try to figure them out before you look.
Submissions are due in a few hours but here's the contest https://itch.io/jam/gb-camera-jam-26
Subbing in for WTUL's video game music show in about an hour. Tune in!
Trying to load an old iPad with very limited drive space full of kids shows and I know they won't give a shit about 720p vs 480p but I'm agonizing about it
Big day for us. My 3yo just cleared her allergy challenge for egg.
Egg and almond down. Dairy, sesame, peanuts and a whole bunch of tree nuts to go. We're probably going to put her on allergy injections (xolair) to help fight the rest but knocking egg off the list is huge.
Met a very tolerant lizard today. Took this like three inches away from him.
If we're all gonna be high on opiates, let's bring back the dens
I probably have like 8 Arthur Lyman records when I only need like 3 but when I see them at a thrift store I'm not gonna leave them there
My daughter spotted two creatures on a plant the other day
Been up since 4am because of storms that eventually wound up with tornadoes 3 miles away. Now I'd like to sleep again
I'm a big fan of this band, played them a lot on my radio show and reviewed this record and the one before it. Found a test pressing of their new record on my porch today :)
Let's skip the next two months so October can be the eighth month and December can be the 10th month like their names suggest.
Y'all, Louisiana is going off the rails. The state AG is threatening the New Orleans mayor and other elected officials with appointees over a proposal she doesn't like. And this is stemming from a removal of the position of a statewide elected official before he could take office.
Our state government hates democracy.
While the Trump administration is typically full of terrible, stupid surprises, this is one article that was entirely predictable.

I'm recovering from a vasectomy this weekend which strikes as a great opportunity to hunker down for a game of Civilization. Anybody played 7? Worth getting or should I stick with 6?
I'm glad I know about the exposure triangle, especially because I still shoot with older cameras, but between noise handing in mirrorless cameras and how good denoising algorithms have gotten in post, I basically just let ISO go nuts on auto now unless fine detail is SUPER important to me.
Enjoying this John Fred & the Playboys track. It's a cover of Mouse and the Traps but I prefer this version
I'm watching this compilation of Steve Urkel entrances. I don't think I've seen Family Matters since I was a kid and goddamn, Jaleel White was talented for a child actor.
My wife and I were having fun the other night trying to come up with answers to this question:
What musical artist that was established for over 10 years managed to successfully completely change their sound?
Our favorite answer was Tom Waits.
My 3yo, who's pretty tiny, has been potty training. She doesn't totally get it yet, she just kind of sits on the toilet forever and is scared to get off. But she just peed in it, yay! She asked for a diaper, and not wanted to go backwards, I suggested underwear for the first time.
She asks "Am I bigger?"

I was once taking photos at event and a guy saw me changing lenses and said as he passed "clean pull"
That guy is cool. But he's also made me so self conscious about the fact that I could change Nikon F Mount lenses with my eyes closed and I fumble over the new Z mounts. I never thought about how good I was until that guy said something!
I set a goal to do a triathlon in the year that I turned 40 (which was August last year). Sort of as a defiant act against aging. It was going ok, I was at a point where I could probably complete one, just slower than I'd be proud of.
Now I'm recovering from a running injury, I have two other surgeries in the next two weeks which will probably set me back. I'm seeing a doctor about my TMJ which has gotten so bad I have trouble drinking from cups.
So much for defiance against aging.
The idea of "lifetime purchase" makes me sad. That's supposed to be what a purchase is.
The word "piggyback" suggests that we once transported things via swine quite often
Enjoying this instrumental record from David Kaplan. Jazzy surfy guitar with bits of Latin, noir, etc. Good morning listening.
Looks like the $30 PS2 from the thrift store didn't pan out
A friend might cut a deal for another friend buying something from them.
But a good friend doesn't mind spending a bit extra for a friend.
Having fun with my Analogizer. A community device for Analogue Pocket that lets you connect it to CRTs and retro controllers. It's a MiSTer for people who should just get a MiSTer!
All a billionaire has to do to change public perception in their favor is fully fund the HD restoration of Voyager and Deep Space Nine.
I liked the last Nu Genea album despite feeling like I pass on so many albums that sound like it, and I'd say that about the new one. Nice light, highly danceable world beat disco.
YouTube's algorithm is made to radicalize and send you down rabbit holes. Also I'm so happy it suggested I watch this high school news video with 26 views.
New Orleans' newspaper has only one music writer, and the one time he decides to write an opinion, it's that we're "wrong" for not liking the Eagles.
Evolutionarily speaking, what's the deal with toenails? I get scratching at things with our fingernails, and we can wear them down that way, but what are we supposed to do with toenails? They're just gonna get in the way! And what happens if we didn't invent a file or clippers? We're not supposed to bite them are we?
Either "We're a cash free store"
Or "We're cash only"
You should know, neither endears me to you
