@IndyRichard@mastodon.scot I'm English by birth with a (noble) Scottish name, and grew up in England, about an hours' drive from the nearest border crossing, which we used regularly.
I've never lived in Scotland, but have lived in Germany for nearly 40 years. It took me many years of absence to finally understand the harsh meaning of the words "North British" which I saw regularly when growing up.
I understand what you're saying, and respect the way you're saying it.

@IndyRichard@mastodon.scot I had a very good school chum, far brighter than me, and the poor lad was irredeemibly left-handed. They put him through the mill forcing him to write 'in the correct way'. To this day I think it was only his strength of character, and innate intelligence that got him through it all.

And while I support a very large proportion of what @benroyce says, I think it would improve his viewpoint of electoral democracy if he were to be able to stop viewing the exhibition in the lobby only through the US letterbox. When there are 30 candidates, and none of them are worth a vote, then it's a tad hard to label the non-voter a moron. It's not always a simple strategy game.

A few days ago I said I'd grown up in England, but I was very lucky and had 2 excellent History teachers, and they, in turn, had an excellent syllabus to work with. So, unlike many 'English kids', I learned, in a non-partisan way, a lot about the Emancipation campaign in Ireland during the 19th C. Later, growing up with 'The Troubles' on the News almost every night of the week, and a brother-in-law in the Brit military I sooned learned the meaning of dumb insolence.

I asked how big is 'large', and was duly shown the cup. I said 'I will not drink out of a piss pot' turned around and left, with the family reluctantly behind me.
The family have never forgiven me.
Starbucks? I couldn't care less.

If what @mamapanda has just posted, and I have no reason to doubt her, then they might as well be using some proprietary software, but preferably not from MS, and not a calculation prog.; rather a decent database system, but that would need to have decisions made by people who know their onions. Only very rarely have I worked with politicians who fit this description.
