I’m looking for an article (blog post?), shared here (I think) a while ago (months, probably) about generative AI, revolving around the phrase “I want to see you try”. The author was stating that they appreciate people making a messy effort to e.g. write something themselves a lot more than reading perfectly bland AI-generated copy. This sentence has been on my mind a lot recently, but I can’t find the source article anymore. Anyone remembers and has it bookmarked? Thanks! 🙏

@bitboxer@mastodon.social My favorite topic! @doro@toot.village.one and I started @VillageOneCoop@toot.village.one four years ago, very happy to chat about what we’ve learned! Open calendar here: https://www.village.one/garden/how-we-work/office-hours (45mins probably better)

@dansup@mastodon.social @pixelfed@mastodon.social Thank you so much for creating Pixelfed and the energy you’re continuously dedicating to it. I’ve been posting daily since Dec 2022, so it’s easily the social network I’m most active on, by a wide margin. Brings me joy every day!
Please go and vote for a democratic party today! 🇪🇺 The people we elect this weekend will stay in power until 2029 (!) and we need them to not only stand up to fascism, but also take meaningful climate action (+ deal with a hundred other important topics).
Every voice matters, make it count, use your privilege for all those who can’t vote. 🗳️

I had never heard of DDC/CI until I stumbled upon this post @vidister@chaos.social (thanks @tomster@social.tomster.org), then found https://github.com/waydabber/BetterDisplay for Macs in the replies… now I can control my Dell screen’s brightness using the Apple keyboard brightness keys and never have to use the crappy OSD ever again. My eyes are quite sensitive to screen brightness, so I adjust it often and this is honestly a game changer. The week is off to a great start! 😅

@subvertworld@mastodon.social One of those 3500 here and wondering: Are you incorporated as a real (as in: legal) cooperative already? If so, is there any documentation on that, e.g. where the company is based, who’s on the board, share structure, …?
There have been quite a few co-op-like initiatives over the years, taking people’s money for membership, but then only cosplaying as a cooperative, not having the actual legal structure to back up their governance claims. Not implying anything, just curious!
How about starting the year with some utopian thinking? In our book club we’re reading “Everyday Utopia – What 2000 Years of Wild Experiments Can Teach Us About the Good Life” by Kristen Ghodsee. Discussion is on Jan 23 via Zoom and you can join us on meetup: https://www.meetup.com/unread-bookclub/events/297738639/ 📚

@zachuorice Hmm, we certainly do not outsource development, I’m a dev myself and we’re booked out for months in that regard. Some non-profit clients specifically work with us because we don’t outsource (easier to get grants).
I also feel having your devs in-house is invaluable if you want to play around with your own product ideas, being able to throw together a quick prototype. It’s such an advantage if you treat devs as creatives and make them part of the creative process.

@markuskr @VillageOneCoop Thank you, it’s so hard to get these things right, happy you like it!

@zachuorice Hmm, interesting. I guess it just varies how devs are seen and included in different stages of a project. Are you part of a team or freelancing?

@subvertworld@mastodon.social Cool, thanks for the pointer! So I’m an actual cooperative member of your LCA already, in the legal sense? I’m confused, I guess, because in a German cooperative you’d need to collect more information from members, but maybe jurisdictions differ.
Huge respect for what you’ve achieved already, btw, big fan over here! Loving the visual branding especially, feels very fresh!

@subvertworld@mastodon.social Thank you for being transparent, I appreciate it! The original post (3.5k co-op members + co-owners) is more of a vision/promise then, rather than reality right now. That’s fair, it’s just not super clear during sign-up.
Either way, keep up the fantastic work, I can’t wait to receive the zine in the mail. We never managed to create a nice welcome package for new members in our co-op, while you clearly knocked it out of the park! Very much looking forward to the platform as well! 💪
