D is for Dogwood #ArtABCs

when I was living in ATL, the dogwood festival was my favorite event of the year. arts festivals are my happy place, and the blooming dogwood trees in piedmont park are gorgeous

this is a sketch of the species of dogwood native to where I currently live, after moving back to california (though it technically doesn't range as far south as los angeles)

I'm still really pleased with this hibiscus sketch from a couple weeks ago 🌺 I used the photo on the hibiscus wikipedia page for reference

I love @inkscape@mastodon.art, I've used it for over a decade now. but I do have to say that the way it occasionally corrupts fonts when closing and reopening files is vexing

it particularly seems to hate when you bold or italicize a word in the middle of a text field

I have sort of a love-hate relationship with tech. Learning to code as a preteen gave me some control back over my life at a difficult time, and in college I fell in love with puzzling out algorithms, drawing splines, and casting rays to make pretty pictures.

Knowing the math behind curves in #Inkscape honestly does help me as an artist when I make vector art.

But now and then, I wonder if it was a mistake to teach sand to think.
