@AlSweigart@mastodon.social 1) about as genuine a type of engineering as social engineering. 2) no (I am a statistician in academia, so I program every day, but not like that)

MeFite since 2018. I like graphs and bikes and cats and friendly internet strangers.
@datarama@hachyderm.io For me it's Welsh mythology names/words. Some ones I remember over the years were morfran, ceridwen, and arianrhod.
This has been a really stressful couple of weeks, prepping Little e for high school launch. Last week it was foreign language placement, this week it was 504 accommodations. I think we landed where we needed to both times, happily.
Mr. eirias and I are cautiously optimistic. It will be a big change, moving from tiny high-privilege private school to large high-poverty public school. We think our young nonbinary alterna-teen is more likely to find their people there than in any of the other schools we thought about. I'm hoping there will be enough challenge in the classwork that they don't pull out all their feathers. We're both thinking that having to walk to school will be a positive change.
There’s a protest scene in my neighborhood following a police homicide and the neighborhood listserv is doing the affluent liberals thing. Stifled the impulse to join in the useless ad hominem and instead explained how the untrustworthiness of cops is a problem that doesn’t go away when you shoo the grieving out of the intersection, but sticks around for all of us. Which of course got no traction. Sigh.
What on earth is the point of a May Day promotional poster that's obviously AI-generated?
My friend’s teen put together an amazing video about being intersex.

Red headed woodpecker today; plus, two flickers obviously courting.
Borrowing trouble is one thing but I’m like constantly overleveraged.
Some training sessions leave me spent and waify and others leave me feeling like I could scale a tall building. Today was the second kind.
LB: Imagine an alternate world: "Are we diagnosing too many people as gay?" I think the act of diagnosis presupposes an external view and discards or at least downplays the experiential. With sexuality we now recognize this as silly, because the experiential IS the phenomenon. Will we get there with autism? #actuallyautistic
You know, it feels pretty fitting that Biden was exiled from the political scene for being old, given that by 2022 his domestic policy around COVID was pretty much "who gives a fuck about old people, anyway?")
(This message brought to you by my kid testing positive this AM, most likely dooming my own travel plans to see my mother. We'll confirm molecularly before throwing in the towel, but damn.)
