What when dark humor is self-deprecating instead of deprecating others? For example, this drawing I made, in which there's humor from mixing esoterica/occult (alchemical transmutation/metamorphosis) with ornithological behaviors (owls eat rodents) being read by my self-avatar (i.e. a projection of my self) in self-loathe (imagining oneself as a rat/mouse to become dinner for owls). Perhaps one would call this "grim humor" because it's a subtle Memento Mori, but it seems more of a dark humor piece, a piece I had some legit laugh back when I made. I didn't bother improving this drawing, I just sketched it and that'll be all. I could've done a 3D scene instead, but nah, I'll pass.

There's also a social factor in play: yes, I could refrain from having "smart" apparata (and face the crushing social ostracism stemmed from this choice), but if one of my neighbors have a "smart" apparatus, depending on which one it is, it could technically be used to spy on me. I mean, the whole polemic involving Meta's Creep-Glass has to do exactly with how those things can be used and are being used to spy on others, unbeknownst to said others who never ever purchased a Creep-Glass. !technology@lemmy.world

While trying to find an alternative to DDG and stumbling upon this post (thus, this means I wasn't using mojeek before), I tried it only to get a "you shall not pass". To me, this reeks of "Brazilian IPs autoblocking lists" as I often read webmasters alleging that "Brazilian IPs are often found among botnets/residential proxies", so firewalls often do a sweeping and discriminating block of Brazilian ASNs; since I'm Brazilian, my IP belongs to a Brazilian regional ISP, and I don't use VPN, I often get the unfiltered "Brazilians aren't welcome" automated response from international websites using unrevised blacklists so, yeah, very independent from you!

@Mojeek@mastodon.social Well, if you got access to your own Apache/nginx/etc access logs, there's likely just one person among the entries who queried for the overly-specific query "metarig rigify", it's not too common of a search query I guess. That'll be my IP address and, if you do further grep across the logs, you'll notice this IP address never appeared before because there's no fucking automated query from said IP (and I doubt there were any from the regional ISP, either, because it's a regional ISP with very narrow coverage).

Grimoires and other esoteric books, in which the whole book is often a power-imbued artifact, sometimes with a cover made of special materials. In this sense, for example, a copy of Liber AL Vel Legis made by some commercial publisher out there wouldn't be able to hold the same energy than the one directly written by the very hands of A Crowley when he channeled Aiwass.
