Some musings on AI:
I'm not a professional SE. I code in the service of solving specific scientific problems or other problems I personally have. But when I fix a bug, or overcome a limitation, all on my own....that feeling is unmatched. Why would I ever use a tool that takes away that sense of accomplishment? I don't want AI to solve my problems. I want to overcome challenges on my own, to build competence on my own, to discover on my own. AI just cheapens things.

This paper frustrates me. Nothing against the researchers, but if you can find no consistent patterns, the conclusion shouldn't be "the effects are heterogeneous". The conclusion should be "we couldn't find any pattern / effect". Negative results are still significant! It's important to know that Chiari Malformations don't present with a cogent neuropsychological syndrome! Just fucking say that!

Ladies and gentlemen, we've got a live one. This is an area of particular expertise for me, as it's what I spent my postdoc on. The way we treat youth, particularly Black and Brown youth, in the school system, at the very best possible interpretation Does Not Help. We are teaching Black and Brown kids that adults do not give a shit about them, and it is contributing to a truly staggering suicide rate. Hats off to these researchers doing this study in Trump's America.
