@josephcox@infosec.exchange 404media has paywalls. Here's the cited thread, without Xitter's login requirements either: https://xcancel.com/tdietterich/status/2055000956144935055 Interestingly, the core is "If a submission contains incontrovertible evidence that the authors did not check the results of LLM generation," then the authors get booted. Subtler slop will slip through.

@jelte@mastodon.nl @raiderrobert@mastodon.social Higher code/branch/path/etc coverage suggests not just better tests but also better testability of the code under test. Testability is relative to specific testing infrastructure, rather than being something solely inherent to the code under test. Eg, you're not going to get good coverage of error handling without a way to inject errors, and you're not going to get good test coverage of side effects like monitoring signals or logging without a way to capture and test those.

@Quasit @illogical_me @rootschange @zeank It would be nice to migrate to platforms supporting E2EE. Matrix supports end-to-end encryption (E2EE) including in chat rooms. XMPP itself is not encrypted, but can be configured to support E2EE, eg, with OMEMO, although this can be finicky to get right. IRC itself is not encrypted, but you can layer E2EE over IRC, eg, using E2EIRC. https://hanez.org/document/irc-vs-matrix-vs-xmpp/#e9a32a08 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OMEMO https://github.com/novus0rdo/e2eirc

@pikesley@mastodon.me.uk see recursive pollution and model collapse. Eg https://berryvilleiml.com/2026/01/10/recursive-pollution-and-model-collapse-are-not-the-same/ But also see this paper arguing that collapse does not happen if you accumulate training data rather than replace old data with new data; instead, it converges towards a limited level of errors. https://arxiv.org/pdf/2404.01413

@trendless@zeroes.ca Thank you for the link to the paper @Rhyothemis@zeroes.ca . Here's a quote from there that explains why they suspect the causality goes in this direction: "Persistent gut barrier dysfunction allows microbial-derived products such as lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and bacterial DNA to enter systemic circulation, driving chronic immune activation." 1/

Additionally, microbial metabolites could in turn affect the kynurenine pathway, whose enzymatic activity has been associated with the size of the HIV reservoir." 2/

@raiderrobert@mastodon.social Different solutions to an algorithmic problem may have different time, space, code size, maintenance complexity, etc. tradeoffs, and be better for different scenarios. A storage system that supports downtime-free upgrades is going to have more complexity than one that requires downtime. Which is better depends on your needs. 2/

@raiderrobert@mastodon.social Code is good if it is fit for purpose. Without knowing the purpose, one is left to make assumptions about the purpose, and ask if the code is fit to that assumed purpose. An example of buggy code is a good example only if it has the specific bugs being demonstrated. A candidate busy beaver program is good only if it is in fact very slow. 1/

@Rhyothemis@zeroes.ca @trendless@zeroes.ca From your quote, "This suggests that interactions between the body and the microbiome may influence how much virus remains in a dormant state" is a weak claim that the causality goes from (body-microbiome interactions) to (viral reservoir size).
