Kirby (not his real name) is the manager of my patio garden.

Walked down to the park this morning and found a large patch of wild garlic from which I harvested seed cloves. And these wildflowers were all over the place.
Prairie Nymph (Herbertia lahue)
Mexican Primrose-willow (Ludwigia octovalvis)
Well it's April and it rained so False Parasol is popping up all over Houston. This one's very young so the gills will still be white and not green tinted as with a mature sporing mushroom. So be careful and do not eat. Its nickname is 'vomiter' for a reason.
Chlorophyllum molybdites
What if the universe opened like a flower instead of flying apart like a bomb? Would you rather be a flower petal or a piece of shrapnel. I mean, if we're going to tell stories about it.
I'm not sure I've ever had a plant pot that didn't have clover in it eventually. They get around. The fungi too.
Cory Doctorow is featured in the Guardian with a lengthy essay on AI. It summarizes much of what he's been saying for a while now. Great that he's reaching a wider audience! #AI #enshittification @pluralistic@mamot.fr

Walking around a medical office park while my friend sees her doctor. Found some bird's nest fungus in the mulch.
Cyathus sp.
My potted Lantana has leafed out nicely and is starting to pop.
I'm going to try to grow some wild garlic. Be sure they smell like garlic/onions before harvesting and consuming. There are look-alikes that are poisonous.
Wild onion (Allium canadense)
If you find a feather, there's a site to help you track down what bird it belongs to. I guessed Cooper's Hawk on this one and tracked it down really quick. Secondary wing feather.
'Twas a twelfth after midnight
And all through the house
I danced like a nutter

I am ruing the day, just like they always said I would.
Today begins Losar, new year by the Tibetan calendar. Pictured is Urgyen Menla, Guru Padmasambhava emanating as the Medicine Buddha. Peace and happiness under the sky for all beings without exception is the meaning of it all.
Mosquito by my ear is harmonizing with my tinnitus and it's pretty entertaining.
If you're really beautiful you don't have to go around announcing it to everyone.
Not of general interest but this lecture on Wittgenstein is quite good. #philosophy #Wittgenstein
The worst thing about cardinals screeching their heads off at the crack of dawn is I don't even know what they're saying. Sounds important though.
"Believe in a love that is being stored up for you like an inheritance, and have faith that in this love there is a strength and a blessing so large that you can travel as far as you wish without having to step outside it."
—Rainer Maria Rilke
“That books do not take the place of experience, and that learning is no substitute for genius, are two kindred phenomena; their common ground is that the abstract can never take the place of the perceptive.”
—Arthur Schopenhauer
(Aside from what he may mean by 'genius', direct experience will not brook any conceptual stand-ins: what a Buddhist meditator is after in seeking the thing called 'realization.' It can't be conceived of nor spoken about, it must be directly experienced.) #philosophy
The Secret Agent (2025) is set in Brazil, mid-70s and is very dedicated to putting us in that place and time. What's striking is the color palette. It is warm, the base color is tan to tangerine with splashes of bold primary and secondary colors. I don't recall ever seeing a film that looks like this. Look at that splash of green behind the man's head. The boy's yellow shirt. The man's red shirt and blue pants. The whole movie is painted in this scheme. Just striking. #movies

"Given that it is quite a colourful-sounding phrase and that it is quite recent, it is surprising that a definitive origin can’t be found."
Can I just once have some sleep without all the goddamn dreams? No. I'm being told no.
