I am a Palestinian mother who believes deeply in my children’s right to education, despite the harsh conditions we live in. We enrolled our children in learning points funded by UNICEF, hoping for a safe space and support—but the reality was disappointing, with a lack of even basic necessities.
Still, we accepted this, because education matters to us. But the real shock came when I was told my 13-year-old daughter would be denied entry simply because she does not wear a hijab.

Nine-year-old Ritaj Rihan was killed by an Israeli sniper while in a makeshift classroom tent erected on the ruins of a destroyed school in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza Strip, just days after attending school for the first time since the start of the war.
