A creature from Datakollektivet.no joined us, wondering if they should move from ansible to coop cloud. Here's some of our reasons for joining:

Coop Cloud helps reduce skill silos, allowing more people in your org to share infrastructure responsibilities.
Deploying new services is more cost-effective, because many interactions are preconfigured: e.g. centralized configuration, SSO, health checks, and upgrades.
When you do have to perform work setting up a service, others in the community will benefit and may contribute to your efforts.
Creating a new recipe involves following guidelines which ensure stable and robust deployments.
Offboarding is easy. You can stop using abra at any time and manage your deployment using another tool.
Maybe most importantly, the community around coop cloud is valuable to its members, as a place to get together with other tech cooperatives and collectives.

Finally, we talked about if there's anything Co-op Cloud can do to help sysadmins meet each other and start building the immense trust needed to share access to each other's systems to help each other out. Personally, a huge project goal for Co-op Cloud has been reducing sysadmin sadness, and there are certainly a lot of capable and trustworthy people in our orbit… the pieces are maybe there. Folks talked about "growth at the rate of trust" (starting small and building from there), end-to-end encryption as a means of reducing the trust needed in the first place, and backup-storage as a means of low-trust mutual aid. Next, more chat about backup-bot-two¹, our reluctantly-built (but handy!) Docker volume backup script. First up: great question from a community member, "how to get involved if you're not hosting an instance". 👀 Monitoring https://git.coopcloud.tech/coop-cloud/monitoring-ng/ provides a dashboard to view multiple abra deployments in one place. Administrators can see performance over time on multiple machines, spot memory leaks and upgrade needs, and receive alerts for issues requiring attention. Unfortunately, the recipe is complex: 6 containers from different upstream sources all need to work together. So upgrades are work-intensive. We discussed dividing the work: multiple maintainers could split responsibilities into three areas while supporting each other. (🧵 2/4)

We want to find more ways to connect these orgs - as well as others aligned with us. First up, another excellent summary from @amras of the kite-flying they facilitated last week: (1/3) ### Roles We chatted about our gap wrt admin, management, and finance roles. We have high hopes for our new finance applicants! And we absolutely want to see more people involved who don't call themselves "technical". ### Support for Maintainers We discussed how signing up to be a maintainer currently feels like also needing to define the process of maintenance (e.g. release strategies, stability concerns). The maintenance work itself is relatively easy, but the process could be better documented. ### Democratic Tech Fund With the DemocraticTech.Fund spinning up, we chatted about its goals. The priority is to increase the social capacity of tech, not create new technologies. The fund hopes to do this through setting up and supporting collectives to use services, raise awareness, and campaign for democratic tech.
