I run my own instance so there ain't nobody can ban me for saying whatever I want. I recommend running a Fediverse instance. It's extremely easy and you can do it reliably for $240 a year or so. Costs about that much to have enough headroom in even a single person instance. That's been my experience running Pleroma for years.

I recommend using PGTune on the DB and balancing how many connections Pleroma makes with the max_connections needed to deliver good performance. You can probably work out good settings with PGTune and Codex or Claude Code these days. It's almost never Elixir at fault, but Elixir hitting Postgres too hard, or Postgres not being tuned well enough, or just not enough RAM and CPU for Postgres or Elixir. I just know that from running my single user instance for a while. Depending on what load balancer you use, you could probably also edit the nginx config to convert the 500 error HTML responses into valid JSON for Pleroma FE to read to stop the red alert spam. Saves having to actually patch Pleroma FE. I've thought about doing it before, but I'm lazy.
