📣 X / Twitter is back in Tapestry for iOS. This new and free connector requires no subscription or API key. It doesn’t rely on XCancel. Instead, it uses FxTwitter, which is hosted on Cloudflare’s edge network. ✔️ Faster than XCancel’s RSS feed. ✔️ Media loads consistently. ✔️ Per feed options to include replies to others, replies to self (threads), quotes and reposts. ℹ️ Even if XCancel was still available, I’d use this instead. https://github.com/bretcarmichael/tapestry-connectors/blob/main/fxtwitter.tapestry

Pretty excited. I used Claude to build a Tapestry connector that lets me follow Twitter accounts. I supply a Nitter RSS URL, and Tapestry shows the account’s posts. It also rewrites the post URL, so it opens on Twitter. I’ll share it and make it available for download.

As promised, two Tapestry connectors!

  1. Follow X accounts in your Tapestry feed. Made possible by Nitter; private and no login required.

  2. Follow Trump’s Truth Social account in your Tapestry feed. Made possible by Trump’s Truth.

I updated my Nitter connector for Tapestry with some improvements:

  • FIX: When a tweet contains only text, the Twitter Card image of the text is no longer embedded in the post.
  • IMPROVED: Video embedded are displayed more consistently.
  • NEW: Reposts and replies are marked as such.
  • NEW: Reposts show the original author’s avatar.

Trump with some kind words about Tim Cook, which are both complimentary of Cook’s ability to navigate the Trump administration on behalf of Apple and probably a disservice to his reputation as a human being among brand loyalists.

@aadeacon@mastodon.social I think the real driver is that Apple is acting in the fiduciary interests of shareholders. The company may believe that Apple's reputation and Cook's reputation are separate; that Cook can retire when Trump leaves, and the problem is solved. The problem is, Apple — the company — will be on the wrong side of history. Principles are just words when one is not willing to sacrifice anything in their service.

@deandmx@mastodon.social Ah, okay! I can help you with that:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Choose Connectors.
  3. Select the "Nitter" connector.
  4. Add the Nitter user's RSS URL.
  5. Repeat 1-4 for any other Nitter accounts.

@maverick604@mastodon.social @Gargron@mastodon.social It doesn’t matter that Trump won by a majority vote. That doesn’t mean a company gets to pass on its principles after it made those principles a core feature of its brand. It’s not called “trying to survive”. It’s called lying about what the company stands for. The idea that a company should not incur criticism for turning its back on its stated values because those values have become inconvenient to near-term profit incentives is ridiculous.

Lots of companies are over-indexing on AI to justify their valuations at the expense of the human capital that earns those valuations. If AI investments continue to underperform, they’ll have set a bunch of money on fire to create the appearance of being onto something.

In making a deal with Musk for Tesla to supply energy, the UK has taken on a national security risk. It seems pretty irresponsible to put critical infrastructure in the hands of a foreign agent who interferes with your self-governance and elections.

It’s a bad look for Grammarly that it took this long. Imagine the firestorm that would happen if an unlicensed AI Taylor Swift started giving people guitar lessons and helping them with their songwriting. Grammarly bet on a power dynamic without bothering with the obvious optics of what they were doing.

Sure, but all the societal problems we’re having are a product of adults using social media. We don’t talk about that because we resist self-reflection, and social platforms drive a large part of today’s economy. We could eliminate content algorithms, though.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Go to Advanced Settings.
  3. Select "Clear Feed Caches."
  4. Select all followed Nitter feeds.
  5. Press "Clear Cache" at top-right.

The government has its sticky fingers in more media. Paramount’s acquisition of Warner Brothers could be a poison pill, though. To satisfy Trump, it will minimally need to go the way of CBS, a FOX Lite. To satisfy MAGA, it will need to go extra hard, full FOX. Either way, it means turning over its audience after a merger financed by an ungodly amount of debt. To pay back that debt, Paramount needs to add customers and raise prices. 1/🧵

Hegseth’s threatening message to Anthropic that the US might quasi-federalize proves the EU’s point. US tech has long enjoyed the advantage of scale, making competition difficult. One way to disrupt that dominance is to start treating it as a national security threat, forcing the next-best alternative to be the best. Not good for US tech in the long run.
