@est@emily.news I had an older Kobo H20 that I loved, but a recent update added the same forced Kobo account. There is apparently custom firmware that can be sideloaded but haven't tried it yet.

I think the cost incentives will probably drive Mastodon devs and forks to prioritize features like more granularity of moderating tools over things like QTs. The challenges of a moderator dealing with and paying for a viral tweet or hosting a popular account will exist no matter how clients choose to render.

@jens@social.finkhaeuser.de I'm kind of confused what we're debating at this point. Won't the display of a linked toot as an embedded QT always be inconsistent user experience? It's ultimately up to the client rendering the content right?

Agreed that the effects of QT will be totally different because moderation is totally different.
