This week, we're launching VotingWorks, the voting system we've been hard at work on for six years. Open-source, secure, and easy to use. So every American can trust their ballots are counted correctly.
I'm so proud of our team and of what we've accomplished together. This is just the first of many finish lines, of course.
@evacide@hachyderm.io no no, it's Torment Nexus v3.1, totally different.
Alright, we're doing this. A limited series podcast about the mechanics of how we vote, in particular about voting technology. Short and sweet episodes. Episode 1 out now, 2 later this week.
You may be aware that there's a big US election next week. Maybe you're wondering about voting machines, how they work, etc.
Check out the first 3 episodes of "How Voting Works", my podcast on voting technology:
@mekkaokereke@hachyderm.io everyone has to suffer like I did dialing into compuserve at 14.4 and trying to do something useful before call waiting disconnected me. Anything easier is just a slippery slope to hell.
@luis_in_brief@social.coop @dangoodin@infosec.exchange it is interesting to me what the NYT finds interesting :) I don't usually get calls from them for "breaking news".
The election was last week, but maybe you're still curious about how voting works in the US, the mechanics, the equipment, etc.
Episode 4 of my podcast is out – this one on ballot-marking devices and voters with disabilities.
It seems a lot of folks are discovering exactly what the secret ballot means. Yes, even your spouse won't know for sure who you voted for.
You might enjoy the anecdote in Episode 1 of my podcast 🗳️
@tilde@infosec.town wait, you're DNS?
@luis_in_brief@social.coop @atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org @mike@flipboard.social @surf@flipboard.social uhuh, nice, very very cool.
I'll drop this thing I wrote a couple years ago when Mastodon started really taking off.

@evacide@hachyderm.io ok, *now* it's Thanksgiving.
@poswald@mastodon.social I am occasionally concerned about what I've called low-grade or casual coercion of kitchen-table voting.
That said, I've also seen the great benefits of mail voting, so I hesitate to constrain it.
@natematias@social.coop right?
I wrote a few thoughts at the other place.
@feld@friedcheese.us we'll publish all CAD and BOM. CPU is standard x86 for this generation.
@ben@werd.social totally agreed! Though haven't seen it in a while on this end :)
@mjg59@nondeterministic.computer hang in there! Hope it's mild.
@threatresearch@infosec.exchange what model?
@dansinker@omfg.town what am I doing wrong, it just sounds not good to me when I edit.
@simo5@fosstodon.org I don't know that it's lazy... It seems to have worked well until this freak solar storm.
But certainly it gives pause as to the layers we depend on.
