@rmondello@hachyderm.io Judging from my dad’s descriptions, do not attempt to drive yourself in a dense area. Driving norms are very different and you will not be able to anticipate the behavior of other drivers.

@futurebird@sauropods.win As a trans woman, I’m convinced that:
a) cis people also experience gender euphoria and dysphoria; it’s just not particularly obvious to them because they mostly experience euphoria and it’s part of the baseline we think of as “good mental health”
b) the facts that children tend to divide themselves into two social groups by gender, and that even into adulthood men and women have different social groups and conventions, are rooted in euphoria/dysphoria and are basically innate to human societies
c) the fact that in many societies this separation creates a power imbalance with women subjugated and men punished for displaying feminine behavior is a pure social construct and can be changed

@FinalGirl Oh, hey, my mom’s a superfan of theirs. Traveled to see them when they were touring and stuff.

@plasma@woof.tech One of the CAPCOMs sitting in front of him yesterday was wearing a Sailor Moon lanyard, so it might have been his.

Don’t surprise them with it, obviously. Explain what you’re going to do ahead of time and keep the spray bottle in plain sight.

And yes, I am speaking from experience.
Given how many good trans engineers I know who just mysteriously never get an offer, I’ll say it explicitly: I’ve seen the Swift team evaluate and sometimes hire trans candidates. You’ll get a fair shot. @joe@f.duriansoftware.com
It’s a rainy, dreary day, but even the days that aren’t perfect are better than a good day before.
Transitioning is the best decision I’ve ever made.
Hot take: The Artemis livestream is a damning indictment of modern computing devices. It seems like half the radio chatter is troubleshooting email delivery problems, confusing user interfaces, or devices not booting or connecting. Literal astronauts with years of training can’t make our stuff work.
@quephird@tech.lgbt
Clicker-training, but with the soft beep at the start of a radio transmission.
Inigo Montoya: “My father was slaughtered by a six-fingered man.”
@quephird@tech.lgbt: “Probably AI-generated.”
Over on another website, I’ve seen at least two examples of trans women who should be celebrating with their teams tonight, except that DeSantis’s reign of terror chased them out of Florida and the space program.
Celebrate, but don’t forget what’s been stolen from us.

@lyrial I am not nearly naïve enough to click a link with a high port number that a stranger sent me in reply to a joke about clicker training.

@rl_dane Maybe they were trying to take it to the Moon and leave it there, so Earth would be free.
I’d say that Peter has forgotten more about Apple APIs than most of us have ever known, but I’m not sure they’ve ever forgotten anything about an API, no matter how old or obscure. Hire them!

@ajroach42 Also, no, because ad targeting is a zero-sum game. Better targeting capabilities mostly shift spending from one ad tech company to another; they don’t increase total spending.
Funny that after decades of sci-fi asking “what if we made an AI that was actually alive but nobody believed it was?”, we instead seem to be dealing with “what if we made an AI that was definitely not alive but lots of people believed it was?”
This show needs some frakkin’ polyamory.

It’s funny how “catwoman”, “catgirl”, and “cat lady” are all completely different things.

@Chloeg@mastodon.art I’ve decided to celebrate the achievement but deny America any credit for it, since NASA seems to be succeeding in spite of the administration’s values, rather than because of them.

@justkwin@toot.community There’s actually a public holiday today, but it sure is well-timed relative to WWDC.
