Seems to be picking up it's actually naked eye visible at times. Seen from FL370 over the Atlantic near the southern tip of Greenland

Well, it all fits. Clothes? Toothbrushes? What are those? I have the important stuff. I'll probably shove a few shirts or socks around things for padding but there's zero chance I'm getting away without a second bag. This is the carryon, of course. Laundry is easily replaceable.

I need to do some profiling and investigation. Loading a JPEG from a network mount and displaying it should not take 5+ seconds. Sure, it's 375 MB and 1.9 gigapixels. But I'm on a 64c128t CPU with a 100G pipe to the storage cluster. There has to be a way to make this faster.

Next stop on my Intel code name grand tour: one light rail stop before the airport in Seattle lies the city of Tukwila. Namesake of the Itanium 9300 series.

Two days before your flight is the *perfect* time to discover the laptop you planned to present on doesn't actually have libreoffice installed. Better now than the day of.

"But Grandmother... What big terms and conditions you have!" "The better to serve every customer's unique needs, my dear"

So it turns out the family laptop has a high refresh rate (like 120 or 165 Hz) display on it. Which means that ngscopeclient can update that fast too (the waveform refresh loop is currently locked to vsync in an annoying way that prevents it from running faster than the monitor). Just ran a quick test with a ThunderScope and 5070 mobile: 10M points per waveform, FFT + waterfall at 100 Hz refresh rate. Not bad.

The world really wants me to start drinking coffee this week and is not taking no for an answer. After having my hot chocolate swapped for a Starbucks coffee at the airport, I made the mistake of asking for black tea with my breakfast on the plane. Instead of a cup of uncontaminated hot water and a tea bag I got something poured out of a coffee carafe that had clearly been used for coffee in the recent past. Having non-consensually tried both in the past 24 hours I'll take an unexpected mouthful of ~95% tea / 5% coffee over one of straight coffee. Still undrinkable, but not bad enough I can still taste it after rinsing my mouth out twice.

Does this mean something different in Europe?

I'm always amused to see places or menu items named after familiar home locations when I'm so far from their namesakes. The record distance was probably a Starbucks in Hong Kong serving Pike Place Roast but this is definitely up there

@ErinRose@chaos.social can we like start collecting donations to buy things off nile that he wants to destroy? Figure out how much youtube money he expects to get off the video and pay him 10% more to give it to a good home instead

I hope my suitcase is big enough. I keep finding more things I forgot to pack.

Humidity here must be really high we're getting condensation over the wing too. At decidedly subsonic speeds

@ireneista@adhd.irenes.space @mcc@mastodon.social @decay@gts.todayiwilllaunchmyinfantsonintoorbit.com @amarioguy@social.treehouse.systems @MaddieM4@raphus.social Fourier transforms will also happily run at GB/s rates on any modern GPU. VkFFT is awesome.

@dec_hl@mastodon.social @kelpana@mastodon.ie I've used it on a 2080 Ti, 3070 Ti, 5070 mobile, 3050, and R9700 AI Top plus a bunch of integrated cards. Don't remember seeing any GPU related problems with any of them

@jpm@aus.social so they're protective of their brand of fungus? Lol

@jpm@aus.social so that phrase means foot fungus where you're from too?

@emily@fedi.uni.horse "senior software engineer" is the level where you've been at the company so long you're eligible for the discounted breakfast menu at the cafeteria

"SMTWTFS" on a calendar is pronounced "smoo toughs". I will not be taking questions.

Nice condensation plume coming off the outboard edge of the flap

@iris@neuromatch.social i actually quite like the smell of coffee but I can't handle the taste. I'm very sensitive to some bitter tastes like coffee, certain batches of carrots (depends on growing conditions, organic ones seem less likely to trigger it but are not a 100% safe bet), many green vegetables, etc. Joys of a neurospicy palate

@iris@neuromatch.social hard no on both. Very mild mocha pastries are still inedible to me

@emily@fedi.uni.horse there are two ways to do Fun Lab Stuff at home without being hassled. 1) be in the middle of nowhere, nobody ever finds out 2) be friendly with all your neighbors and make sure they know you're a science nerd and not a drug cook *before* they randomly stumble across you Doing Science at 1am

@dianea@lgbtqia.space I would love a room- or building-wide 48V DC distribution system for a lot of stuff. Definitely rack level at minimum

@dianea@lgbtqia.space My FPGA based Ethernet switches will run on (positive) 48V DC input

@alice@lgbtqia.space you single pin picked that faster than i could probably rake it lol

@gsuberland@chaos.social long term the plan is to allow digital phosphor persistence and run the waveform loop async to the monitor and just do a buffer swap whenever the next monitor vsync event shows up, with the waveform loop and filter graph potentially running at kHz. But right now it's strict waterfall model - data comes from the scope and goes into a FIFO asynchronously but then we pop one and only one waveform from that fifo, run the filter graph on it, and render it before popping another

@ErinRose@chaos.social oh no

I will have a *lot* of toys with me since I'm basically carrying a whole conference demo setup - laptop with ngscopeclient, ThunderScope, PicoScope 6824E, UV-VIS-NIR spectrometer, FPGA board that can generate all kinds of fun signals, passive probes out to 16 GHz bandwidth, and more.

@alina@girldick.gay (I volunteer with local search-and-rescue and for some *weird* reason any time we find a body in the woods the police want to take statements from everyone on the team. Can't imagine why that would be...)

Currently no buses or horses on the itinerary. I don't want to swim with all my luggage, and don't plan to have a bicycle until later in the trip.

@gewt@social.treehouse.systems aww we're not overlapping then. I'm almost at airport and won't get back until late Sunday

Putting the finishing touches on the slides and labs for the probing class I'm giving in Gouda, NL. next week. I think there's still one slot open if anybody wants to join at the last minute.

@RichiH@chaos.social oh. No naked eye visible color no. I've only seen that at like Kp 8+

@joshua@social.emarhavil.com where does 7075 rank?

@emily@fedi.uni.horse back when i home etched pcbs i actually used HCl:H2O2 and didn't ever get to the saturated copper chloride state

@dotstdy@mastodon.social Huh the video clips in my slide deck play fine. Maybe I just have a beefy enough CPU? They're full HD but no sound and 5-10 sec and seem to play at full speed with no issues.

@gewt@social.treehouse.systems oh when are you coming? How long are you in town for? Want a lab tour?

@FritzAdalis@infosec.exchange lol. There's actually a pelican case under it that's a little bigger but you can't see it

@RichiH@chaos.social the white balance seems reasonably decent judging by the apparent color of the wing

@jeroen@secluded.ch probably a lot more i haven't benchmarked it since the 100g upgrade

@alice@lgbtqia.space Fair. Is that one of the comb pickable masters btw?

@orbispictus@mastodon.social @suihkulokki@society.oftrolls.com I'm not fluent if that's what you're asking. Know a few words but that's it

(framework 16, Debian 13, nvidia 5070)

@jeroen@secluded.ch CephFS. It should be able to sustain 15+ Gbps of linear reads especially if the client multi threads (which qimgv probably does not)
