alternatively, mashing two memes
@davidgerard@circumstances.run "are ya'll with the sex cult" "which one?" "the silicon valley fascist sex cult" "do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?"

@root@possum.city @LariscusObscurus@wien.rocks @kde@floss.social @LupinoArts@mstdn.social On the one hand, I get "those who do, get to have a say" because I certainly wouldn't want people telling me how I could, and could not, use my free time. On the other hand, is it really such a big ask that KDE not support fascist, environmentally destroying technologies that are being shown to *eat away* at the people using them??

@xgranade@wandering.shop To expand on this: without open source software, as well, I'd never have had the opportunity to gain a useful skill set to help myself.  I dropped out of high school because my home life was abusive and worked a lot of low paying jobs, for years.  Having access to free UNIX-type systems and getting to learn about them helped me a lot when going into graduate school, and helped me even more when I was able to get my first post-school job at Cray.  If I had had to pay for compilers, development environments, etc, there's just no way I ever could have afforded it. Getting to play with programming helped me build a better base for the math I learned during school (a base I lacked from having a difficult relationship with school from said bad home life).  So the idea of free, open information and software that enables and teaches means a lot to me, personally.

@kde@floss.social @LupinoArts@mstdn.social @davidgerard@circumstances.run How does the process for adopting new guidelines work in KDE?  Because I would like to submit a proposal for a total ban ala Zig.

@root@possum.city @LariscusObscurus@wien.rocks @kde@floss.social @LupinoArts@mstdn.social *maybe* there were deleted comments or something but as is, ffs... meanwhile, on a mailing list, people are discussing open ended inclusion of LLMs into various projects (and, it should be noted, repeating unsubstantiated industry marketing and propaganda). just fucking boycott the damn things.  KDE should really not be made at the expense of stolen labor, poisoning Black communities, and empowering fascists.  Hell, so many of the chatbots run on illegal gas fired generators, including Musk's, and he's now dumping money into pushing anti-trans ads in various US markets. Are a few lines of code worth so much that KDE wants to support that?

@xgranade@wandering.shop I don't want anyone to grow up like I did: gay, trans, different, in a harshly religious environment with no access to any information that tells me I'm not alone, that I'm not bad, that there's a way out, that the abuse isn't *right* or *correct* no matter how much they frame it as "godly", and that there can be joy and love and food and acceptance in my life.  The internet was a lifeline for me: finding others like myself, finding the experiences they've written about it, in their own words. That is worth preserving.  That's why I'm trying to do things.
