@LeedsPHP We took a closer look at mobilizon, which was mentioned a few times. Seems to do all a meetup needs. However, we concluded that for now, it's easier to collect monetary donations than volunteer hours needed to set up and maintain our own thing. We run a little snack and drink buffet, and people put more in the box than the things cost at the store. If you happen to have a couple of people who would do that for fun, mobilizon is probably a good choice.

@NeroBurner@fedi.at I wonder when surveys like this will become pointless, because the majority of answers are AI-generated...

Apologies for the late notification:
On Tuesday, April 7 #cppusergroupvienna will look at...unusual code. Can you figure out what it does?

Puzzle over the quirks of the language in "The Crazy C++ Quiz"!

@jakub_neruda@techhub.social I would add one more option: Implicit sharing. It uses shared pointers internally, but behaves like a copied value to the outside. It will only do a deep copy if someone wants to change their copy. In your example, you would probably just pass ownership of AnimationStates, no copy, no crash. Does make it somewhat harder to debug memory leaks.

@DanielaKEngert@hachyderm.io Hope to catch you live on that at some future conference. Then I'll need two follow-up talks: "How do I make cmake run its parsing multithreaded" and "How do I convince my manager that build times are more important than shiny new features"

@shafik@hachyderm.io @matsuzine@hachyderm.io @cwebber@social.coop So if you are established, lend a hand to all the young ones willing to take it. Communities like local meetups, #meetingcpp or includecpp.org may be (part of) an answer, too.

@PeterSommerlad@mastodon.social @lesto@hachyderm.io @DanielaKEngert@hachyderm.io @alilleybrinker@hachyderm.io I suspect languages like Rust make it much harder for you to write unsafe code that actually compiles. So unless you opt-in to the unsafe parts, you'll be forced to change parts of your mindset or give up in frustration. I wonder if learning Rust would make C++ developers write safer code eventually...

Replying to
@ernie@writing.exchange The lesson is: Instead of investing donations into purchasing copies, they should have invested it into legal, like most companies seem to do
