@doener@chaos.social don't get me wrong, this whole thing is very stupid. Downloading a 4GB file onto people's computers without asking (that they probably don't even know about, for useless features they probably don't want) is a bad thing, and i don't like that chrome is doing it. I think they should stop. But I think the idea of "downloading a 4GB file has 'insane' environmental ramifications" is kind of silly? Unless I'm missing something. My thought process is: I know I for sure download way more data than that on a regular basis. I download 4GB steam games all the time without thinking twice about it. According to a quick google search, the average American household downloads between 500-700GB/month. Even if we're generous and assume 50-100GB per person per month, 4GB does not really seem that significant to me. I don't want to sound like I'm defending chrome - this is stupid, I'm just a little confused by the environmental framing.

@doener@chaos.social perhaps this is just a very American perspective and global internet use is way way less than the US? Or perhaps chrome is installed on a lot of computers that wouldn't ordinarily use that much internet bandwidth? Either way though, I don't think this is enough to reach "environmental disaster" levels, it's just stupid and a waste of bandwidth and storage.

Are there any Linux music players that show album covers in a cool grid like this? It's fun to be able to look at album art instead of text :3
