@ErictheCerise@kolektiva.social I have discovered that people (i.e. my friends) get quite agitated if you approach the trolley problem in any way that isn't being forced to choose. Coming up with a solution where everyone lives is missing the point, apparently.
@leighelse@mastodon.nz It’s so frustrating. Such a manufactured issue.
But it can be used to springboard a winge about teachers, and the base love that.
My cousin: So, what are you doing at EIT now?
Me: Well... uh... I'm sort of like a Shakespearian Henchman to one of the main characters.
My Cousin: So digging graves and carrying luggage and stuff?
Me: Yeah, and sometimes I get a comic monologue that's actually quite ribald if you understand the four humours
Sometimes — such as when it's being explained to me that OBVIOUSLY they couldn't have put their dirty dishes away in the dishwasher because it's currently filled with *clean dishes?* — I wonder if there's an easier way to do all this.
In my ongoing fascination with masculinity, i was reading something last night that pointed out how Men's Stuff so often uses war analogies (it was pick-up culture, and approaching women like military operations).
And I was remembering all the war metaphors leaders were using during covid. And further, how much political speaking — because I guess politics is still unconsciously treated as man's stuff? — uses the language of war.
And I think that it would be good if we tried to stop
Me: What’s this? A game, eh? 'Firewatch'. You're isolated in the forest, with only radio communication? And there's strange things afoot? Okay, colour me intrigued, let's give it a go!
Game: You see a woman in a bar. Flirt with her.
Me: ... what the fuck is this
Another three hours of fireworks last night, the second night of Guy Fawkes, as everyone with pets or babies or who was trying to listen to music will know. But, of course, it is those of us who want to ban public sales who are the actual fun ruiners.
Me: And are the ordinary hardworking kiwis in the room with us now?
NACT: Yes! Well no. Not in this *actual* room. But they're out there! I see them all the time! They talk to me!
Me: i see *makes note on pad*
NACT: What did you just write?
Me: Don't worry about it.
