I've never been on #Facebook , never been on #Twitter , #Instagram , etc ... I rage-quit #Google back in 2006 ... I use a Google-free version of #Android on my phone ... I (*finally*) quit #Microsoft , switched to #LinuxMint about 10 years ago, quit #Netflix ~15 yrs ago, I quit eating meat ~12 years ago, sold my last car ~8 years ago for the #ClimateCrisis , etc, etc.
But I still use #Amazon .
I feel bad about it, but finding the day-to-day products I want/need in my life, esp. here in the EU, on "not-Amazon" platforms or local retailers, continues to be really hard for me.
I buy less stuff on Amazon today, than I did a decade ago. And I keep trying to find alternates ... #ZooPlus for my cat, bookshop.org for me, etc.
Especially since the recent #WaPo "non-endorsement" bullshit, I'm trying to wean myself off that site.
Do what you can.
Do more if you can.
But don't beat yourself up (too much) about using the platforms you need to use to maintain your life.
Most of the issues in the world are institutional issues, woven into the core of our lives in ways that make it nigh-impossible to take the high road. This is—mostly—not our fault.
Vote for the right people, protest the wrong policies, and build your local community.
And prepare for a world with far fewer resources than we've grown up with.
