Really really long sesh and some proper nasty sound design adventures... after some 10-12 hours, I tend to get to a point where each sound develops a distinct human like personality and character.. each sound has a specific relationship to all the other sounds.. like colleagues or neighbors.. one sound might be gossiping about the others, some might keep their distance, while some develop a really extroverted personality.. it's fun watching it unfold.. there's probably a diagnosis here but hey..

So stoked about this whole setup finally working as intended! Spent ages building this whole thing and it's finally at a stage where it can be properly played and performed with. Some early tests here featuring the new Zebra3. Absolutely brilliant work from folks over at U-HE...

@logotype@infosec.exchange Before these I was using the AKG K361 and I absolutely love them. Cristal clear sound and they seem to have a much flatter response than say Audio Technica ath-m50x which I used prior to the akgs. I recommend the AKG cans but they're not the comfiest so worth keeping in mind. Ended up wearing them to death. Took em off after a really long sesh and they literally fell apart haha.. Proper warriors death I reckon :D

@Glubhorn9@mastodon.social @sean_ae@post.lurk.org @eko_@mastodon.social @chorist@merveilles.town the function shape~ combo is a wild one for sure. I’ve been exploring function a lot esp for sequencing. The new stepdiv~ object is p cool too. Def worth messing around with!
Started building this thing with stepdiv~ at the centre. Using function as a grid allows for a lot of freedom regarding how you work with trigs. This was the initial design. Shared an updated version with Sean a few days ago.

@eko_@mastodon.social @Glubhorn9@mastodon.social @sean_ae@post.lurk.org @chorist@merveilles.town cheers! Appreciate it really. The sampler is p cool but I’m still working out the best way to deal with samples. Not sure if its better storing within tons of buffers (polybuffer~) or load straight from the ssd. Testing it out on a new machine and it’s almost the same, but seeing as its likely becoming a commerical module I’d love to accommodate people with less recent machines so they have a fluid experience using it

@Cognessence@social.linux.pizza Thank you Rob! Never replied to that photo of yours you shared at a piano when we talked about your father. Beautiful sight really. It definitely explains your beautiful piano playing :D

@bobbyrethwish@mastodon.social @sean_ae@post.lurk.org essentially we're still talking about the dynamic loading within poly~. Just describing different approaches to optimise performance. In my case, I worked with a really large patch that had tons of bpatchers - this worked but it could get stuck here and there so not ideal. So i followed Seans advice and split the rig into parts/patches, albeit a bit diff to what Sean did, even tho I might try splitting the tracks as it seems more natural to do it that way.

@Glubhorn9 @sean_ae oh this sounds like it's definitely worth going down the rabbit hole with it haha

@Mrabazeley @sean_ae @stephenmeyer @Glubhorn9 hey! I'm probably the last to pick up Max in this bunch. I can tell you for a fact it's never been more accessible. There is a great community around it and the amount of material that's out there and ready for you to unpack is limitless almost. With that said, what really helped me is a clear idea of what I wanna build. It narrows down your research and helps you learn the bits that are important at a given stage.

@Mrabazeley @sean_ae @stephenmeyer @Glubhorn9 I've zero background in any sort of programming and I picked up Ableton around two years before Max. I mostly tried to figure out what I want on a large scale (a sequencer maybe) and then thought, well what I want this sequencer to have in terms of features, so you learn that and so on. It helps cause you won't go and try to digest tons of synthesis techniques if you're interested in building a sequencer. Narrowing down.

@Mrabazeley @sean_ae @stephenmeyer @Glubhorn9 Unpacking others patches is insanely helpful too as long as you use it as a means to learn, rather than skip the work. It's incredibly helpful to see 5 different approaches for the same thing cause you try to learn all the steps and objects within a given approach which in my case often leads to "original" ideas or something new to explore. It's likely how I learned the most.

@Mrabazeley @sean_ae @stephenmeyer @Glubhorn9 i don't consider myself very intelligent when it comes to these things and with no background, trying to read a bunch of text that I've no way of conceptualising is dreadful. Seeing something work and then taking it apart, trying to figure out what's doing what. That works for me. I might not understand it as a programmer would, but I understand it well enough to formulate other ideas out of it. If that makes sense haha

@Mrabazeley @sean_ae @stephenmeyer @Glubhorn9 i'd say generative is quite a broad term. Loads of ways to do that, but I'd say look at a few different ways of sequencing stuff first (yt, forums, c74 webpage). I'm happy to list a couple of people whose work really helped me get started. I also built a sequencer patch for c74 a while ago that you can download and mess with. It has a lot of features but implemented in a very beginner friendly way.

@Mrabazeley @sean_ae @stephenmeyer @Glubhorn9 here's the link to it: https://cycling74.com/articles/starting-points-in-max-pt-4 it has some generative elements that might interest you.
There's also a few other artists included in that project. You can grab their patches too. Loads to learn.

@logotype@infosec.exchange thank you so much, brother!
BTW, might be wrong, but did you send ping me on here a while ago asking about headphones? I seem to recall it being you, but I haven't checked Mastodon properly in weeks and can't seem to find the original message anymore.
