It has taken Belgium and the Netherlands by storm, but in the rest of the world, a wayfinding system based on nodes is not known. For fun, as a thought exercise, I created a recreational #bicycle network for Ottawa-Gatineau, based on nodes to see if that could work. As a bonus, I added numbered nodes. #ottbike #BikeTooter #cycling #bike
Earlier this week I read a column by a #Dutch #architect who compares leaving his lawn chair in the street and what we would think of that. Yet car parking... I am publishing his column "Parking is not a birth right" in English today with his permission. #Ottcity #Ottawa
Over the last few years, #Ottawa has built no less than 10 protected intersections on a stretch of road from Churchill to Bronson, a serious number on such a short stretch to make walking and cycling safer. I biked the 4.5 km and checked out this rather unique improvement .#ottbike #biketooter #ottcity
People for Bikes is getting ready for the annual update of their #Cycling City Rankings website. They lean on Open Street Map for lots of their data. You can help keeping the map up to date for #Ottawa and #Gatineau. Read how in my latest post. #ottbike #Biketooter #osm #openstreetmap

The rain was supposed to start at 5 pm so we cheerfully went out by bike to see friends in the east end in #Ottawa. Nearly all separate #bike infrastructure. Which is really cool. Not so cool was that the rain started at 3 pm instead (what happened to weather forecasts) and we had to bike back for an hour and a bit in drizzle and 7 degrees. Nevertheless, nice to be out on my first 30 km bike ride this year.
Just before the snow came, I cycled all the parking lots on Merivale Road in Central Nepean in #Ottawa to check which food places are new and which ones have gone. Here is the 2026 update. I am actually not much of a diner myself, so I refrain from trying the food. I leave that to those with a more refined taste.
@human3500@ottawa.place work has restarted on Fisher at McCooey. That large concrete circular piece has now been lowered in the hole.
Also, a crane has been erected at the Lone Star plaza for the 24 story rental tower.
The chutes de Pleasance are currently awesome @Dvdham@mastodon.social They have even built a small theatre set up for people to sit and watch, bleachers style. Still a foot of snow in places in Papineau Labelle area. #Quebec
In Canada, Canada was 8th at the Olympic Games, but in the rest of the world Canada ended 11th. It all depends what you count. Canada arrived with 207 olympians (hockey teams add up), the Netherlands with 39, Norway with 80. Funding is what several people pointed at as a reason for reaching the top, not necessarily a large population.
#Til: there is a 2 day shipwreck festival in Wisconsin. The Ghost Ships Festival is two-day public, community event held annually in Wisconsin to promote research, education and public awareness of Great Lakes maritime history through the stories, remains and underwater archeology of Great Lakes shipwrecks.

In the last quarter of 2025, #Apple shipped 19,600,000 Ipads. Let that sink in. That is 213,000 every single day. And virtually all will be obsolete in ten years and end up on the e-waste conveyor belts. Including other brands, 192 million tablets were shipped in 2025, or around half a million every day.
