Another solar powered site!
@stfn@fedi.stfn.pl has got this server running in the shed, and the site also lists some other solar-powered sites!

I love running my own self-hosted services to avoid becoming some large corporation's product. I post my cat on caturdays, and don't follow any particular account theme. You get the posting lucky dip with me!

Today's tech screw up:
I botched an upgrade on Zentyal, our Active Directory alternative. So, being a good sysadmin, I triggered a restore from our Veeam platform, which dutifully shut down the broken VM and began the restore operations.
Using a service account that's stored in active directory. The restore failed, and now I'm reconfiguring my backup software to use locally stored service credentials.

Do you mean Aineko from Accelerando?
If so, I agree. All the understanding of humanity and compassion whilst feeling none of it. Just cold and calculating intelligence, a goal, and no moral limits to stop it.

They talk about having the option to switch to full-res where it makes sense here: https://solar.lowtechmagazine.com/2023/06/rebuilding-a-solar-powered-website/
I suppose having the dithering by default saves space/time/power and the fallback lets people view originals when it makes sense.

Thats no run-of-the-mill animal! That's obviously a spot dedicated to just this one cat, and no "other" animals are allowed.

I'd be interested to see whether there's benefits to dithering on the viewing device side as well.
I suppose at this point, they're at the point where they can also provide the option to switch to the full-res images, so maybe the dithering is "good enough" for their use case.

I got the runner working as a docker image! All I need to do now is to customize the build actions and I'll be able to get some images pushed to my gitea registry!
I'm currently using gitea to mirror an existing repository, so I'm going to need some gitea actions to merge the latest changes into my own forked repo, then modify the build instructions to point at my infrastructure, and THEN run those instructions.

The changes worked, and everyone had a much smoother experience!
Great job, me!
