Rev. Charles Browning
A priest in the Episcopal Church in Hawai'i, husband, parent, surfer, occasional writer, frequent over-thinker. Forgiven, just like you.

I guess we're doing something right. After all Jesus said, "You are blessed when people insult you and harass you and speak all kinds of bad and false things about you, all because of me. Be full of joy and be glad, because you have a great reward in heaven. In the same way, people harassed the prophets who came before you."
Maintenance person went by Saint Mary’s to check on things after the storm. Not sure why, but the big cross was lit up. Something hopeful and beautiful about seeing it on a text tonight:
Ngl, I’m quite pleased with what I made for my recent blog post, which is why I’m sharing it separately #ALilSelfIndulgence #WhichIsAlsoVanity
I'm writing this from a standing desk, and trying out a trackball as a mouse (for maybe the first time... not sure, but I think I may have used one for a spell in the late-90s). Typing with a mechanical keyboard. On my Linux machine. Who have I become?
Oh man, this image that pops up whenever I attempt to read an article from Tech Radar (which it and The Verge seem to be very common on the News tab).
“Your adblocker is attempting to interfere with the intended operation of this site” it says, in part. My adblocker blocks ads. So the “intended operation” of Tech Radar is to show me ads and not the articles that you’ve written? So Tech Radar is an ad delivery service and not tech-related news? Got it.
The kids don’t understand. When I was in elementary/middle school in the mid-90s, finding #Godzilla merchandise involved finding someone whose business was traveling to Japan to buy loads of Godzilla stuff and ship it back to the US. It meant calling people up from classifieds in G-Fan or, in my case, making pilgrimage to the Atlanta area for Showcase Collectibles.
Now, they have niche Godzilla toys in the Happy Meal. And I truly love that for the kids. I’m so glad they have it this good.

Man, I wish more Christians listened to Rowan Williams.
I've FINALLY posted something new on the blog! In this one I talk about some insights I had from the book of Ecclesiastes and why "all is vanity" is actually good news.
(Plus, I'm super proud of my meme work in this!)

If I've learned anything from my years of following #mosstodon it's that I must visit Devon at some point in my life.
Kids saw a moving sale sign and so bugged me about going. Turns out the dude had a TON of various gadgets he was getting rid of. Saw this Drop keyboard and had to have it (being a 90s kid I’m such a sucker for anything Atomic Purple). Got it for a steal (coupled with a bin of Lego he sold my kids). Might have to sub out my beloved Apple G4 Power Mac keyboard…
Typing on a laptop while listening to Moby's Play album on an iPod-looking mp3 player. Is it now or is it 26 years ago?
Feels weird to write a sort of obituary for Ted Turner considering that I knew very little of the man. But he was a fixture in the background of my entire life, largely shaping the world I knew. He was also widely criticized in my childhood church for his politics and (lack of?) faith. Which means that he is probably worth celebrating, if I'm being honest.
Since today is the Feast of the Annunciation and I'm a priest at a church dedicated to Our Lady, figured I'd write a little something about the day (that also aims to challenge the traditions a little bit).

Today we will be discussing the ever-present sign of the cross in Christianity. If you've ever wondered why we Christians make such a big deal out of the instrument upon which Jesus was killed, then this installment is for you.
We go live at 2:30 Hawai'i time (but can be watched whenever after that)
