How did you celebrate the ♀️🌍 International Women's Day? Everyday we see brilliant women driving innovation at GSI/FAIR and serving as role models for the next generation of scientists.

Today, we are thrilled to spotlight GSI physicist Kathrin Wimmer, who has just taken up a W3 professorship in Experimental Nuclear Physics at the University of Cologne! Congratulations!

Helmholtz President Martin Keller visits GSI and FAIR in Darmstadt!
“I am deeply impressed by the FAIR facility. Here, fundamental questions about the evolutionary history of our universe are being answered and, at the same time, technologies are being developed that will have an impact on society far beyond the field of physics,” said Martin Keller.

🛰️ TRACE #satellite assembly completed at GSI/FAIR!

Built by student members of TU Darmstadt Space Technology e.V. (TUDSaT), the TRACE satellite has been fully assembled in the cleanroom of GSI/FAIR’s detector laboratory. It will be the first satellite from a Hessian university to reach orbit.

Next, TRACE will undergo testing at ESA, with the already funded launch planned for 2027.

How do we protect #astronauts on their way to the Moon or Mars? 🚀 One of the biggest unseen threats in space are Galactic Cosmic Rays (GCRs).

To tackle this challenge, our Space Radiation Physics group at GSI/FAIR has teamed up with the #EuropeanSpaceAgency to build Europe’s first GCR simulator — right here in #Darmstadt. 🌌

🔋 From smartphones and laptops to electric cars – rechargeable #batteries power our everyday lives 📱🚘

An international research team involving the Helmholtz Institute Mainz (HIM) – a branch of GSI/FAIR and @unimainz@wisskomm.social – has now developed a method to analyze a battery’s condition non-destructively through the battery casing.

This helps for the development of next-generation battery cell technologies. #renewable #energy #darmstadt #science https://www.gsi.de/en/start/news/details/2026/03/05/zulf-nmr-battery-testing

👨‍🔬 Moritz works as an Educational Scientific #Outreach Officer at our #particleaccelerator GSI/FAIR. Among other things, he is responsible for developing educational programs for #students and explaining our research in a simple and understandable way. That makes him a bridge between us and the public.

His biggest project yet – #SCIENCEPOPUP in downtown Darmstadt – has been a big hit for all ages.

First hints of an exotic nuclear state! After 20 years of searching, an international team mainly from Japan, GSI/FAIR, and @jlugiessen@wisskomm.social successfully observed a rare meson-nucleus system bound only by the strong force.
