@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu If it is also Europe's security, then more ways need to be found to contribute to Ukraine's defence, also among the general civilian population. "Mobilization of the willing", maybe?

@Tutanota@mastodon.social I ordered a FairPhone running on e/OS recently. Hope it will arrive soon. And yes, I completely ditched Microsoft, and went full Linux.

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu Money is not going to be enough to defeat Russia in Ukraine. More involvement from regular people is going to be needed.

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu I don't even get what is the point of the post besides pretending to be cool using the number of the beast.

@dcoderlt@ohai.social @randahl@mastodon.social I was about to say the same thing. Kyiv, not Kiev. Kiev is based on the transliteration from Russian (Киев), whereas Kyiv is based on the transliteration from Ukrainian (Київ).

@EUCommission Stop posting on them then. Stop using them then. You and everyone else in European institutions. Social media companies are making money through the ads that are being displayed next to the content posted by regular users. No posts from regular users means less ads displayed, which in turn means less money for them.

@leanderlindahl@social.folkdata.se If more people were like us to question things critically, platforms such as X or Facebook would already be history.

@leanderlindahl@social.folkdata.se The user experience on it has become so poor, that I fail to understand why still people continue to use it. I log in from time to time to get informed about some event, and really there just isn't anything there that I find meaningful. Textbook example of "en****tification". Just time-wasting mindless nonsense.

@Tutanota@mastodon.social I've used Cdiscount a few times. Also, it can be good to take into consideration sites for second-hand goods, which have the benefit of having a lower carbon footprint. In France, the primary site for that purpose is "le bon coin".

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu Then leave it altogether. Bring your friends along, we here on Mastodon are waiting for you all!

The Lakota Lullaby, one of the most emblematic Native American melodies, as well as one of my favorite ones (played by me on a F# Native American flute). As the #UnitedStates is about to celebrate its quarter millennium #IndependenceDay , today is a good day to commemorate the indigenous cultures that they try to erase to build their "great country". (In 1862 under Abraham Lincoln happened a mass hanging of Lakota men, the largest one in American history). https://loops.video/v/cwE1ummZRr

@jonhicks@mastodon.social thanks for calling that out. They're adopting a business model similar to the one of YouTube, where one needs 1000 subscribers and >4000 watched hours per year in order to be monetized. And the majority of YouTubers are not able to reach it. Indeed theft, as some people pointed out. Or exploitation. In any case, such business practices should have no place in our society.

@EUCommission We are looking forward to the day where she makes her statements herself on Mastodon.

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu If you think that the Fediverse is so good, why aren't you taking more steps to embrace it?

@randahl@mastodon.social And one more to consider: Big Tech social media platforms have lost their user base.

@VoltEuropa@mstdn.social Climate refugees could be caused not only by rising temperatures, but also by rising sea levels, for countries such as the Netherlands, Denmark, or the Veneto region of Italy.

@randahl It probably might have, but it doesn't bring much to long for what could have been. We need to dwell in reality, and do the best out of it.

@RickiTarr and this applies also to music.

@policy@social.opensource.org In these times of need of digital sovereignty, they need to tenfold the budget of the program, to make a dent against Big Tech.

@Gina@fosstodon.org That's fantastic! Kudos 🇳🇱!

@dmian @EUCommission @HennaVirkkunen Hell yeah! I have no account on X or BlueSky either.

@element 🖤💛♥️

Way to go!

@knowprose @MrBranch40 @JimmyB @nando161 @randahl @mls14 Yes, on point. Another one is the mass hanging of Lakhota men by Abraham Lincoln. Also the massacre of hundreds of Pequot Indians in Mystic, Connecticut, in 1637. These are just a few examples. There is much more.

@stephan Have you considered sharing some of the music that you create on Loops (the Fediverse-based TikTok alternative)? I am a musician too, play flute, and am active there uploading my short video recordings. (My German is a bit rusty, but I listened to the music in the video, and it sounds quite good, congrats!)

@randahl@mastodon.social ❤️ 🤍 💚

@EUCommission That's a good step, but ultimately, Europe needs to start emphasizing its own home-grown social platforms, and reduce as much as possible its dependence on platforms from other parts of the world that do not share its values. And high-profile European politicians need to stop relying on X or Bluesky as a primary mean of communication, as it provides such platforms with excessive influence.

@sindum To me, that looks interesting. The Friendica instance I was in went down, so I will consider joining.

@MrBranch40 @JimmyB @nando161 @randahl @knowprose @mls14 And the genocide of the Native Americans is used as a template in what Israel is doing to the Palestinians.

@jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net It's a great initiative, it's leading the way for government representatives in other European countries to also consider joining the Fediverse.

@Wtebbens@social.coop @leanderlindahl@mastodon.social @_elena@mastodon.social @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu Brilliantly expressed! Amen!

@peertube@framapiaf.org Kudos! Let's make PeerTube awesome!

@janboehm@edi.social Ich hoffe so auch.

@tripleman@mastodon.social not freaking out, just pointing it out.

@elfburgerman@mastodon.social @randahl@mastodon.social You are correct, they are not social. Their main purpose is not connection between people, but rather to exploit and extract whatever they can exploit and extract, for their own benefit. (Be it data, attention, anything).

@jolla@techhub.social that's great news! I pre-ordered mine at the end of last year. I guess I will need to be patient a bit.

@jimbob@aus.social Amen. Same thing about designers.

@Bibliothecaris @SURF Way to go, folks! I also am on PeerTube.

@jim@social.openrightsgroup.org Très bonne nouvelle ! 🇨🇵🇪🇺

@elfburgerman@mastodon.social @randahl@mastodon.social and for those that falls under the category "content creators", that includes also labor.

@Tutanota@mastodon.social can't say that it is my favorite yet, but I pre-ordered a Jolla Phone. Hopefully it will be.

@randahl@mastodon.social After January 6th, we thought that Trump was heading to jail, so I don't hold my breath over it.
