The person still had to sit in jail some number of days, get a lawyer, pay legal fees, and be dragged through the experience that is the American court system, moving at the speed of molasses while their life is turned upside down The process is the punishment, and the administration knows it. Its invariably valuable for propaganda too, I just dont wanna forget the real cost for these peope
