Today I painted some garlic for a friend whom I vend with at local fairs and festivals. She makes roasted garlic spreads and flavored olive oils. She suggested a garlic greeting card (of course she did!! Ha!), and I made one today. I like it, and I think it will go nicely with my cherry tomatoes card. My hubby suggested I do a series with Basil and Cheese. Maybe make it a pizza card set. LOL! mmMMmmm, pizza... 🍕 #art #MastoArt #Garlic #Artlife #Artistlife #IndieArtist #HumanMade

#PortfolioDay is back! Here are a couple recent pieces I’ve completed. I’m a northern California artist living along the Redwood Coast, and my most popular work right now features birds. I also do Art Nouveau-styled fairytale pieces, and stylized local flora & fauna. I do everything by hand using Procreate on my iPad, then I print everything out on my own high-end 12-color gicleé printer. I do greeting cards and limited edition prints. Here’s my website: https://coreyartusimagery.com/ From there, you can find my livestream, my blog, and sign up for my regularly irregular newsletter (and get 525+ phone wallpaper versions of all my artwork!). #art #MastoArt #IndieArtist #GreetingCards #Prints #Giclee #Birds #Birdart

Today I share a Pigeon. This was a joke suggestion from a person seeking one in vendor booth. But I did it anyway! Ha! They’re all over downtown Eureka, CA. And while they’re hardly regionally specific (I mean, they’re found almost all over the world), these specific little birds call Humboldt County home, and that’s enough for me. Greeting Card: https://coreyartusimagery.com/products/pigeon-single-greeting-card Speedpaint: https://makertube.net/w/oomJeU6j9cziAHhwSJT2kq Artist Website: https://coreyartusimagery.com/ All my work is done by hand on my iPad Pro in Procreate. I don’t use any “assistive generative” nonsense at any point in the process. I print everything myself. #HumanMade#art #MastoArt #FediGiftShop #Birds #BirdArt #Pigeon #IndieArtist #GreetingCard #Speedpaint

I sold two prints today.

That might not seem like a lot. But for me it was. It was a very good day.

The purchaser was a patron who’d discovered me locally at my booth, and later found me online to buy even more greeting cards over the last year.

That’s the goal, right?

But this was different: he bought prints. Because his family likes my work.

Prints aren’t practical. They’re not cards that get mailed to another person, or calendars that help you keep track of days, or notepads upon which you write lists.

When I started doing art as a career I never let myself believe my work had a place outside the practical. I was scared, and didn’t want to do pieces that couldn’t be used simultaneously as an asset for something utilitarian, because it was the functional aspect of the item that would help sell my art. I wanted to play it smart.

But this last year has been… eye-opening. I’ve sold more prints than I ever thought I would. It's allowed me to see things from a different perspective. It has been deeply validating, given me permission to be brave, and negated a lot of my deeply ingrained fears.

So today meant something to me. An older gentleman, who loved my work so much that his multiple purchases of greeting cards weren’t cutting it, believed in me enough to go to the next step and buy something from me simply because he likes it, not because it was useful.

That makes me feel really good. So it's been a good day.

I swear every day I live in some kind of fantasy fairytale land up here in Eureka, CA along the Redwood Coast in northern California.

This is literally the city park. I mean, deep redwoods, 10 minutes away from everyone’s house. It’s like stepping into another world. I keep expecting to see some Big Bad Wolf step out from behind a giant tree.

That being said, there are indeed bears.

They just don’t talk.

As an artist, I can tell you that I am blessed with an overabundance of photo reference. Ha!

Oy it has been a day already. Ready to go back to bed and try a do-over. Ugh. But in lieu of that, perhaps I’ll just share a pretty bird I made. It’s a Pileated Woodpecker, which are pretty common here in North America. They’re a powerful bird—they can peck at a rate of 20-25x per second! Wth a force upward of 1200x the force of gravity! Crazy!! I don’t have any around my home, lately, so I think it’s probably safe to at least take a nap. Haha! Here’s the speedpaint: https://makertube.net/w/b9tpAexrvnsZvTZc2yJaKU And here’s the card listing on my website/shop: https://coreyartusimagery.com/products/pileated-woodpecker-single-greeting-card All my work is done in Procreate on my iPad Pro without the “assistance” of any generative nonsensical slop. Every stroke is rendered by me. I also print it all at home. I’m proud to say it’s all #HumanMade . #art #mastoArt #FediGiftShop #Woodpecker #Birds #Birdart #GreetingCards #IndieArtist

My initial interview went well for a local artist co-op gallery, and now the membership committee introduces my work at their general meeting next month. We’ll see how it goes!

Even if I don’t get in, I go on a waitlist for potential replacement members as artists retire or move on. I’m excited!! I’m stoked!

I got this done on my livestream on Monday. It’s a Red-Tailed Hawk.

You can watch the livestream recording of when I made it here: https://makertube.net/w/16rRjm5tRFwG6QHX7PRPe1

• Speedpaint: https://makertube.net/w/fuWk8cZog14wg9rtaksmHH
• Artist Links: https://coreyartusimageryinfo.carrd.co/
• Website: https://www.coreyartusimagery.com/

I do all my work by hand in Procreate on my iPad Pro. This image took 4074 strokes of my Apple Pencil, and 2 hrs 52 min to complete. #Humanmade

I would offer the link to my storefront to buy it as a greeting card in the US, but that platform is shutting down. I will be consolidating my storefront and my website into a single entity this coming weekend, Feb 28-29, 2026. More to come on that.

Today is a gorgeous day here in Eureka, CA, with the temperature at 60° and the sun bright. I’ll be downtown at Friday Night market tonight from 5:30-8:30pm, with four new greeting cards!

They’re my new Cooper’s Hawk, a Pileated Woodpecker, a Mallard Duck, and a Red-Legged Frog.

If you’re in the northern California area, I hope to see you there!

I got asked to put my work up in a local coffee & bagel shop, Frankie’s NY Bagels. It’s a very queer and family friendly space that gets over 1000 patrons every week. Big interior with lots of wall area. Last year they sold over 470 pieces of art. I’ll be getting a 12’x12’ segment, and my stuff will be up for six months over the summer! I’m so excited!! It’s a big opportunity for me.

https://www.frankiesnybagels.com/

I’m feeling very very tired. My livestream app crashed on me so I didn't get to save the recording. But the piece is coming along. I’m doing a bee in a flower. I have a very long way to go, but it’s getting there.

I will not use AI to tell me how to do marketing.

I will not use AI to tell me who my audience is.

I will not use AI in any aspect of my life if I can avoid it. (And I am going out of my way to avoid it as much as I can.)

Every inquiry costs a bottle of water in server cooling costs.

I don’t care how much you think it’s helping you, if you’re too lazy to literally think for yourself like every human being has done before 2020, you’re not worth my time.

If you actually think your pocketbook is worth ruining my future, you’re not worth my time.

You post an AI image? You’re blocked. I find out you use AI to write for you? You’re blocked. You use AI to “summarize” crap for you? I can summarize my response: get lost.

I’m a proud Luddite who refuses to defer my intelligence away to corpo bros any more then I have to. And if you’re one of those who thinks “It’s inevitable” then I really don’t need you in my life.

Made a new print this week, in honor of the women in my life with their own special inner power.

The majority of my life I’ve worked in places dominated by female artisans, managed by other women. The skills I learned were taught to me by women. The collaborators I respected the most were women.

I’m happy with how it turned out! It's a bit of a departure from my usual work, but I really enjoyed making it. New things, new tools, new approaches.

It’s available as a print here: https://coreyartusimagery.com/products/solitude-moon-11x17-limited-edition-print-copy?variant=43289034883131

Today I got more greeting cards cut from larger sheets of paper, and printed out some variety greeting card packs of local birds.

I also had a meeting with a colleague who will be coordinating an art exhibit with me at our local library.

And I restored my living room space back to what it was originally three weeks ago before I had to rearrange it into a pseudo studio-storefront for a large local Open Studios event for the last half month.

Then I applied for another event which I really enjoyed last year and can’t wait to do again.

And finally I printed a limited edition, signed and numbered greeting card featuring a Fairy Frog, which I’ll give away to the kids who pop into my booth at the Arcata Fairy Festival.

Done is good.

@MakerTube@mastodon.social I'm not sure there's a way to avoid requiring subscriptions. I'm one of your high-end users. I had 672gb of vids, and just deleted 71 livestream recordings, bringing me back down to under 500gb. I hope that helps a smidgeon. But I can see I'm going to have to delete more often than I do, and stay on top of what I make available. I think I've probably been a bit of burden on your resources. As I get over the 500gb amount again I will boost my donation from $5/week to whatever you suggest. I deeply understand the necessity to do so.

I went to the Redwood Art Association today to pick up my two pieces I’d submitted for this last month’s show.

I got there, and one of them had sold.

I was floored. This is the fourth time I’ve sold a piece through that member-run gallery. Each time I have to pinch myself to remind me that it’s real, that something that came from my heart and my hand actually connected with someone so much that they bought my work.

It’s a heady, thrilling, validating experience. It ensures me that I’m on the right path.

I am very proud to announce I now have 50 different prints available on my website for purchase. They’re all limited edition, signed, and numbered 11x17” prints I actually print out at home on my own 8-color printer one by one.

https://coreyartusimagery.com/collections/art-prints

Each comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, which I duplicate and sign literally on the back of each print so it’s always there.

I ship them in rigid flat mailers with chipboard inserts to prevent folding.

When I’ve printed thirty each at this scale, I won’t be printing any more of them at this size. I’ll still have them as greeting cards and maybe some smaller versions, but never this large again.

I think the 11x17" scale really shows off the texture and detail I work hard to achieve. I think the pieces I make look best at this size.

I’ll be adding more as I go along—I have so many pieces!! But I’m proud to offer these already. It has been a dream of mine to be able to do this for a long time. I think this is where my heart sings—what I’ve wanted to do since I decided to take the reins of my life and do the whole art thing a few years ago.

Onward!

I got so much done today.

I made a new greeting card and print listing on my website.

I wrote a blog post and got another one shared on social media.

I got some new framed prints hung at a local coffee shop to rotate out some older ones.

I also got some new plastic bins for storage of some of my vending booth items.

I also wrapped up two posters that I’d been hired to do.

I got some bookmarks printed out so I have more to sell at the Mother’s Day weekend event I’m doing on Fri & Sat.

AND finally, I got most of my “stuff” for my tent pieces downstairs and ready to pack for the event on Friday.

It has been a whirlwind of a day!!

Yesterday I learned how to make barcodes for the items I sell so I can print them out and adhere them to the packaging of cards i make.

It took quite a lot of work-arounds, but I eventually got my off-brand thermal printer to print a PDF version of each barcode at the scale i wanted.

So now I have the capacity to scan in the barcode when I sell something in person and keep track of my stock. Now I can actually look at the tracking evidence to see what pieces are selling best, not just guess from anecdotal evidence.

I spent the evening printing and adhering stickers to each of the greeting cards sleeves with items I’ve already printed, and learned how much more work I have to do... I realized a *huge* amount that I was selling in person didn’t have a corresponding listing on my storefront.

Since I got through the cards I’ve made, now i have to turn my attention to card packs and my prints. I think that’s all I’m going to for right now. That’s… a lot.

It’s horrifying how one can think they’re ahead of the game when all it’s really doing is opening up floodgates of more tasks to do… I’m overwhelmed, but it’s a good overwhelm. It’s a hope-fueled overwhelm. It’s all moving forward.

Wow, I’ve had my head buried in my computer, working for the last four days trying to get a new storefront/website/creative home set up for myself. I come up for air tonight and see that the world is still on fire, so I haven’t missed much.

I think the solution is to go make some more art, actively working to counteract all the bad in my own little way.

Yeah. And a big adult beverage.

It’s live. My newly revised website.

https://www.coreyartusimagery.com/

I had to find a new storefront option because the platform I’d been using decided to fold, and I wanted to bring “everything Corey” under one roof anyway. So now I’m doing it for myself.

I needed to use Shopify because of the various back-end integrations. And my husband uses it every day for his day job, so leaning on him has been incredibly helpful.

Together we got this done in a week and a half. Not all the almost 300 listings are finished, and I have still even more to put up, but we decided to push the button.

For the first time, I’ve started to offer my limited edition signed and numbered prints, so that’s a huge step forward.

And I can integrate my wholesale offerings, too, keeping track of my inventory all in one spot. And my POS stuff. Soon I’ll be able to do barcode stickers on all my stuff to assist in checkout at fairs and festivals and actually track what I’m selling across all the venues and platforms.

I needed this to grow. I’m really excited about it!

But I’m *NOT* hopping on their Shop App, which just sucks everything posted on it into a gen-AI agentic assistance black hole pit. My shop is my own.

Oy, I’m tired. More work to do, but I’m happy thus far. Whew!

Today, I got out of my head and did some yard work in the bright, warm sun hitting Eureka, CA today. It was gorgeous, and I feel like I earned my Vitamin D.

Then I promptly felt my age and took a glorious nap.

Plus, I reformatted a couple prints that I’ve just uploaded as my two entries for the upcoming Redwood Art Association’s 68th Annual Spring Exhibition.

And I got some business cards designed and ordered.

That’s a good Sunday, as far as I’m concerned.

I’m going to be sending out my newsletter this coming weekend, with a link to over 500 phone wallpaper versions of my works.

Newsletters are the best way to stay in the loop with all the artists & creatives you love. You don’t have to be in a walled garden that exploits you for your data or degenerates your mental health. Their news comes to you, and you read it when you want, filter it to a folder you can get to later, or simply delete it out of your way. On your terms.

I’m a big fan of newsletters.

Had a nice chat today with a friend I hadn’t conversed with in over a year, and it was really nice. She and I worked together for two decades in the same theatre program, and it was nice to catch up. We’ve both transitioned into personal art careers, and our mutual admiration of each other’s work is strong. She’s doing well and parlaying her teaching experience in higher education into classes of her own.

The last few weeks have been an exercise in inventory management!! Argh!! Not the thing my artist-brain is comfy with.

I think my biggest hurdle has been wrestling with the unknown: the UI and unfamiliarity with all the ins-n-outs of tracking things. I’ve learned that when I get overwhelmed with learning new things that make me uncomfortable, I get brain fog and I literally feel like I’m moving in molasses. It takes a huge about of repetition repetition repetition for me to start to feel confident.

But I’ve slowly started to get a routine in the process of listing items, and I’m starting to recognize aspects of the UI, and it’s getting a bit easier. Still agonizing, but decreasingly so.

It’s weird how I can give myself grace when I’m exploring a new art medium, or when I used to try a new sewing procedure. It’s only when tech is involved that my thoughts seize up and things get cloudy. My surety slips through my fingers like water. My hands literally get clammy.

But progress is being made. I’m figuring things out. And I got a whole bunch of new items listed on my storefront. It’s like sunbeams burning away the mist.

I will never master this. But I will be knowledgable enough to be extremely reckless. I guess I have to aspire to something, right?

@dianemagras@mstdn.social You should visit!! Play the tourist! There’s so much to enjoy here! I have a list the length of my arm of places to go see, drives to enjoy, and markets to explore. There’s so much art here, too. It’s a hidden gem, honestly. At least that’s what I believe. 😊

Based on today's news about Persona and Twitch, I think I'll try streaming only to MakerTube today. I've wanted to see if multi-casting might be the issue with my connection. We'll learn whether that's the case today! My stream will be on MakerTube only this time, and we'll give that a shot! I'll be doing a Red Panda in Procreate. I haven't done fur in a while now, so I need to circle back and have fun with it! 1-4:00pm PST (UTC-8) https://makertube.net/w/ww2zPQGGtEL5qSWxjAYNnd?autoplay=1 #art #livestream #MakerTube #MastoArt #RedPanda #GreetingCards #Procreate

@cy We spent our life savings to get here, so this is our forever home. We almost moved to Sacramento, but for us it wasn’t what we wanted. Central Valley has its own lovely and special charm, though! It’s gorgeous in its own way!

Well. My online storefront platform, Goimagine, officially announced today that it is folding. It will cease on March 23rd.

I really believed in that platform. I thought it was ethically solid.

But they blamed a lack of sellers. At their peak, they had 7200 paid sellers, and apparently needed 12K to make it viable to continue.

What they didn’t address is why they didn’t grow beyond that, and that’s where the real problem was. So it wasn’t lack of users. It was a lack of capacity to implement fixes, features, integrations, and investors. It wasn’t that there weren’t enough people using it. It was that there was not enough management to keep them there and get more.

So.

I think I’m going to have to shift over to Shopify. My hubby works with it daily at two vastly different levels of scale, and knows it very well. So that’s an advantage.

He ensures me that the AI features are opt-in. I’d love to believe him, but I think he may be a bit… biased… hehe…

Any artists/craftsmen have issues with turning off and opting-out of AI with Shopify?

Right now, I’m using Square for my POS tool. I hear Shopify has options for that, too, but they’re pricey. Hm.
