As we welcome the lengthening of the daylight hours, I find myself reflecting upon…. #TinyBalancingSheep #SheepOfMastodon (tall photo)

Er I can be a bit thick but… why is the government making it sound like they are brilliant for coming up with the idea of making plug-in solar panels available in the UK? This is in response specifically to the Iran war and our over dependency on fossil fuels. Other countries are way ahead and seemingly haven’t waited for a crisis to take action. We’d love solar but we’re too old to get our money back (probably). It would have to be mainly for a battery and some independence from the grid.

Getting sooooooo impatient about the solar panels and battery we’ve ordered. All this wasted sunshine 😭 You have to apply for DNO (Distribution Network Operator) approval in case the existing cabling etc won’t cope with the extra load. We were warned it could take weeks. Also just found out that already having a heat pump can add even more to the delay. Wish we hadn’t dithered but it’s not an easy decision and it’s a big financial commitment 😬 #GreenEnergy

Thunderstorm in Rothbury. So much cooler today - we’re pleased we headed east. Enjoying the trad music festival 👌🎶

@pete@masto.hypertelia.com Are they never the right ends for the particular thing you want to charge? Do you invariably try to fit a USB A the wrong way round even though there are only two ways? If you answer ‘no’ to either you are not a real person 😄

Gosh - a 66yr old Boeing KC-135T Stratotanker sounds impressive. Unfortunately its flight path took it just a little too far south of us for me to look out for it #aircraft #FlighRadar24

@helenclayton@mas.to Excellent idea! I bought some willow from a grower near Loweswater a couple of years back and made the wonkiest basket you ever did see 😄 It only comes out now as a rustic holder for Xmas decorations. I have plenty left but it takes some forethought because of soaking etc plus it’s surprisingly hard work. I really should have another go 🤔

@Ivor@mstdn.social I love to see them but it’s bitter sweet because they are quite vulnerable, especially the leverets😬

@aroundthehills@mastodonapp.uk I know - I’m guilty of that. This time I thought the hare had gone so went to get the camera in case it came back. But it hadn’t gone, it had come even closer!

@andifluffkitten@mastodonapp.uk Carlisle the same - I think the road layout does lead to traffic from far and wide all converging on the compact central area. Not a great fan of large new roads but it looks like the nearly completed southern link bypass will help with that somewhat. They seem to be planting lots of new hedgerows, though I should think many have been lost. Progress eh 🤷🏻♀️

@Christownsendoutdoors@mastodon.scot Well, I watch too many crime dramas, but this has the strong smell of collusion in high places 😒

Just had a Nippon Airlines Boing-777 over going to Tokyo. Looks like it’s having to do a massive detour northwards. Certainly not one of the usuals. Yet another aspect of the US administration’s mission to destroy the planet. There won’t be anything left to go to war for.

@aroundthehills@mastodonapp.uk Through a window too! Lovely to have it come so close to the house - and I couldn’t believe I had time to fetch my camera. That almost never happens..

@anamckellar@mas.to Very tempted now - more for the energy security angle than a speedy return or self sufficiency. We face south west ish with a reasonable roof area because it’s a bungalow. I think it’s a no brainer as we already have the heat pump. Would have to add a battery obviously.
