At home in Otautahi, Aotearoa
Introverted human. About 70% water, with the rest mostly microbes and awkwardness. Prone to whimsy and self-deprecation.
All photos are my own (except boosted). Am a little red/green colour blind, so things might look different to how I see them...
I try only to boost pictures with #AltText

Mushrooms pushing up amongst the carpet of Pratia in our garden in Autumn
A South Island Robin. Cute and round forest birds, they're friendly and unafraid of humans, following you along a trail to grab any insects disturbed as you walk by
Throwback to a visit to Orkney a couple of years ago, and lichen growing on the standing stones of the Ring of Brodgar.
A slab of cheese bubbling in a pa... Oh wait, no...that's Xanthoria parietina growing on some netting. My mistake...

A few different species all clustered together on a rock. I think the one with raised red bumps (apothecia) might be Haemotomma babingtonii

Some colours from the garden this year:
* an herbaceous Clematis - I think this is 'Arabella'
* Arundinaria auricoma
* Clematis 'Allanah'
* Filipendula

A mushroom on Ulva Island growing from the mossy forest floor. Just as I spotted this, a tour guide walked past with a couple of people and said the name of the species but I don't remember what they said - I think it began with "L"?
We had some time on beautiful Stewart Island, Rakiura, earlier this week. The Oban harbour at Halfmoon Bay hosts a number of seabirds, including albatrosses, muttonbirds (Shearwaters), and terns.
I managed to get some shots of this albatross (White-capped, I think) as it ran along the water as part of its take-off.

Umbrella mosses and lichens in lush greens and purples on the forest floor on (edit: Ulva Island, not) Stewart Island Rakiura.
Some of those mosses look a bit like tarantulas, but I promise they're not. I would've been running away rather than taking photos otherwise...

A Tui looking all puffed up and grumpy above its wattle feathers. Was it something I said...?

Sugar enjoying the autumn sunshine once more
So I bought myself a new Macro lens, and have been playing in the garden. Here are a few highlights at the moment:
Thalictrum (I think this is delavayi), Hakonechloa Macra Aureola, Catananche caerulea, and Athyrium Nipponicum (not sure of the variety, I'm afraid!).

Have been playing with the new macro lens a little more. I finally got lucky with a picture of a bumblebee enjoying some Hebe flowers.
I think I've come across a method for macro photography that works for me - more details in the #AltText
