The printer you need to get is a brother laser. They work forever. They aren't evil. They can be found in thrift stores.

So, I just tried #Arch #Linux for the first time, as a 20 year #gentoo user .. I have thoughts ...
I think the impression Arch is hard could be entirely solved by having a more precise guide that didn't presume the reader already knew what they were doing, or send them down documentation rabbit holes.
In that moment, the user only needs enough to get a bootable machine.
Apart from that, really enjoying it, it's fun, working very well and the amount of stuff in AUR is impressive.
hey #secondlife .. do you discord?

Rather than update to #Windows11, my partner has decided she will be using #Arch #Linux.
I've been a Linux baby since the 90s, no dice. Along comes Catboy UwU #SteamDeck :3, playing her games, keeping her company at work and in bed. She bought it a 60% mechanical keyboard FFS!
I SEE HOW IT IS

@trdebunked I don't know how long this will last .. will see how it handles being lived in long term and if I find myself itching to reinstall it.
@trdebunked The customization aspect of arch is kind of ephemeral and in some cases simply due to packaging decisions.
Case in point, gentoo will put config files in the right place as part of the install and has systems to handle custom configs not getting stomped on during an update. Arch's approach is to make you fish the example config file out and manually manage that.
Customization is not like gentoo's use flags or profiles which do require you know what you want before you start building it. It's more like starting with a minimal debian (or old SuSE) and getting handed a really good, modern package manager.
It's nice and lean now, but lets see what this looks like after me and my ADHD have lived in it a while.
Nobody has asked, and should they, I wouldn't be able to say, but it's important that no-one knows.
