Walmart Is Scanning Your Face, License Plate, and Data. Here’s How They Are Rolling Back Privacy, Not Prices
Walmart’s privacy policy authorizes collecting face geometry, iris scans, palm prints, and license plate data.
Walmart says biometric data will be permanently destroyed when its purpose is fulfilled, within three years of your last interaction, or as the law requires — whichever comes first.

#Walmart self-checkout.
I watched someone empty their cart onto the shelf, scan each item, place it on the opposite shelf, then reload their cart. Like the normal checkout lane, but *much* slower.
I place everything in my cart UPC facing up. I scan everything in the cart with the "gun", never moving the items. Done in 15 seconds. So why are so many people doing it the slow way?
Other stores weigh each item after you scan it, forcing you to do it the slow way. But not Walmart. I just realized.

Taxpayers spend about $2 billion annually on Medicaid for Amazon and Walmart
American taxpayers are spending billions providing #Medicaid to hundreds of thousands of employees of #Amazon and #Walmart
Amazon and Walmart are two of the largest and most profitable companies in the country — collectively generating $100 billion in profits in 2025 — but many of their employees still qualify for Medicaid because their take-home pay hovers around (or below) the poverty line

A small city near me just debated and decided on allowing a Walmart onto their Main Street.
The city I used to live in was faced with this dilemma decades ago. They approved it, choosing for it to be developed on the edge of town. It proceeded to decimate the small businesses on our Main Street. In addition, it moved development activity away from the Main Street, so all the city planning for housing, roads, and other infrastructure was for naught. And also, they feverishly blocked another large retailer (Target) from building in the city, which would have given consumer choice and some competition.
Now the city's life is holding on by a thread. It could easily become yet another Colorado ghost town.
I sincerely hope Walmart is a better neighbor now, and that this won't happen to this city as well.

#AI takes the rich human tapestry and replaces it with plastic artificial crap

#WTF #Walmart ? Today at my local Walmart no prices were marked on shelves or items. Instead all products had a #QR code that you had to scan to see a price. Nope. Just nope. Seems like a huge #cybersecurity risk plus it pisses off customers.

I know that many people shop there because of lower prices and greater availability, but you can count on #Walmart to incorporate all of the worst and most predatory practices. It's a good time to explore alternatives for food shopping and medications. I'm really appreciating my neighbourhood #FarmersMarket for fresh and locally grown fruit and vegetables, as well as some grains and legumes.

US Top News and Analysis | Two top Walmart executives leave company under new CEO John Furner
AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information.
Two senior Walmart leaders are exiting the company shortly after John Furner assumed the CEO role in February. Tom Ward, the chief operating officer of Sam’s Club, announced his retirement, while Cedric Clark, the executive vice president of U.S. store operations, will leave the business, with a replacement for Clark expected in the coming weeks. Their departures follow a broader leadership reshuffle that saw four new top executives—Seth Dallaire, David Guggina, Chris Nicholas, and Latriece Watkins—raised to chief growth officer, CEO of Walmart U.S., CEO of Walmart International, and CEO of Sam’s Club, respectively. The changes come as Walmart reported mixed first‑quarter earnings but said its overall business remained strong despite consumer pressure and high gas prices. The executive exits were first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

US Top News and Analysis | Ross, TJX, and Walmart reveal how the real engine of the U.S. economy is doing
AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information.
The article explains that the strong performance of off‑price retailers such as Ross Stores and TJX signals growing consumer frugality, even as shoppers across income levels are still spending. Ross Stores posted same‑store sales up 17 % and beat earnings expectations, while TJX reported 6 % comparable growth driven by higher basket size and more transactions. Walmart, however, warned that fuel purchases at its stations fell below ten gallons for the first time since 2022, reflecting pressure from high gasoline prices, though it maintains overall business strength. A recent consumer‑sentiment survey hit a record low, underscoring strain on lower‑income households, while premium brands like Deckers (Hoka, Ugg) still see healthy demand. The piece notes that upcoming earnings from other retailers—including Burlington, Capri Holdings, Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle, Gap, Kohl’s, and Costco—could reveal how different income cohorts are reacting to high fuel costs and broader economic conditions, which may influence the Federal Reserve’s interest‑rate decisions.

US Top News and Analysis | Walmart to report first-quarter earnings before the bell. Here's what Wall Street expects
AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information.
Walmart is slated to release its fiscal first‑quarter earnings before the market open on Thursday, with analysts forecasting earnings of 66 cents per share on about $175 billion in revenue. The report is expected to shed light on U.S. consumer health amid higher gas prices, a recent dip in sentiment, and broader economic headwinds such as sticky inflation and a global trade war. Investors will be watching whether Walmart’s growing base of higher‑income shoppers remains resilient, how lower‑income consumers are coping, and how the retailer’s higher‑margin advertising and marketplace businesses are offsetting any pressure on lower‑margin grocery sales. The earnings call will also address whether the boost from last year’s larger tax refunds—cited by peers as a spending upside—is fading, and what that means for consumer spending trends and overall economic momentum.

US Top News and Analysis | Walmart cuts 1,000 roles to simplify operations, Reuters reports
AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information.
Walmart has eliminated 1,000 positions as part of a move to simplify its operating structure under CEO John Furner and a reshaped leadership team. The cuts are intended to streamline work organization, clarify ownership and align roles with the skills needed for the retailer’s tech‑focused strategy, which targets higher‑income shoppers and expands its marketplace and delivery services. The company has been consolidating its U.S., Sam’s Club and international operations onto a single, shared technology platform, a change highlighted in an internal memo from heads of global technology and AI acceleration. Many of the affected employees have been asked to relocate to Walmart’s Bentonville or Northern California offices. The cuts come as Walmart, the world’s largest retailer and the first to reach a $1 trillion market value, accelerates its digital transformation to better compete with Amazon, Costco and Aldi, with quarterly results scheduled for May 21.
