In the West Bank as in Gaza, Netanyahu speaks and it doesn’t promise well.
“We’ve already done it.” Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich responds this way in an Ynet podcast on September 27th to those asking him what his proposal means of doing in the West Bank what Israel has done in Gaza: there are three empty refugee camps and the population has been evacuated “for their protection.” Three days before, at the UN, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the accusation of genocide the biggest lie of the century.
On September 4th, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights described the three camps, Jenin, Nur Shams, and Tulkarem, in other words: Israeli forces went house to house, the population was forcibly evicted entirely, and displaced people report officers telling them to all go to Jordan. The UN sees serious concerns about crimes against humanity regarding forced transfer. In July, UNRWA counted 33,362 refugees still outside the camps.
What Israel has done in Gaza is given its name by Oxfam on June 11th: genocide, with an ongoing ethnic cleansing in the West Bank. Meanwhile, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir publishes on X a video in which he tells Hassan Salameh, imprisoned since 1996, that he wants to execute him, and proposes, if he becomes Defense Minister, executions for prisoners like him and emigration for Palestinians. In Israel, voting will take place on October 27th. In Tunis, the four of the Global Sumud Flotilla remain in Mornaguia, and Al Jazeera reports that the youngest daughter of Wael Naouar is four years old, her name is Sumud, and when asked where her father is, she answers “Palestine.”
The protection Smotrich speaks of even has an expiration date: on September 24th, according to Haaretz, the army extended until November 30th the closure of Nur Shams, which would have ended on September 30th.
The article "In the West Bank as in Gaza," says Smotrich, and it doesn’t look promising seems to be first on LA NOTIZIA.
