RE: https://mastodon.me.uk/@ChrisMayLA6/117336467223964993 If you're considering a hybrid car, then the debate in the thread after my post (below) this morning is fascinating, surfaces some interesting data & research and certainly should be read (not least due to owners' experience being set out) before you go the the dealership to test drive a hybrid. Thanks to everyone who has contributed (so far) to this thread - its been fascinating & a good example of the socialisation of information. #ElectricVehicles #ElectricCares #politics #GreenTransition

Q, are hybrid cars really part of Green Transition? If drivers rely on the petrol element too much, then likely not really. as Shane Brennan (ChargeUK) put it: 'A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle that is never plugged in is a costly petrol car puling round a heavy battery'; as PHEV drivers often find mid-journey charging too time consuming (75% of popular PHEVs can't use fast charging), they rely (too much) on the petrol engine aspect of their cars. #ElectricCars #GreenTransition h/t Guardian

I saw this little one person electric vehicle in a mall parking lot the other day and then again blocking traffic on a 60 km/h road nearby where I'm pretty sure the Ontario electric vehicle experiment doesn't allow them. I wondered because I don't think there's any way to get to this mall legally in this – they're allowed on 50 km/h streets, and this mall can only be reached by a 60, a 70 and a shared use (bike) path. #electricVehicles

Managed to fix my EV charger (Anderson Charger , Renault 4 E-Tech)I charge overnight on Octopus Go (cheap EV tarrif overnight) but 2 days in a row found that my car has only charged a small amount. A bit of digging and it runs out it was charging at 1.9KW instead of 7KW. After fiddling with the limited settings on the car and charger in the end unplugged the car and then reset the charger by turning off at the breaker and volia back to 7KW. It worries me how little control you have even though the apps look fancy, there isn't a restart the charger button in the app for example. #EVcharging #EVcharger #ElectricVehicles

As more EVs hit the road, will we have the mechanics to keep them running? In this issue of our environmental newsletter, we look at the challenge of training enough mechanics to service the growing fleet of EVs; see how a stationary battery can be integrated into public spaces; and check out a drone show as an animal-friendly alternative to fireworks. https://www.cbc.ca/news/climate/what-on-earth-ev-mechanics-9.7298006?cmp=rss

I have created a "cheat sheet" for my #EV I also have a runabout, small car I will be selling very soon that's miserly on Gas (I'm comparing against) Thanks to the Pedo King, petrol in #Australia is U$5.3/gallon or A$2.20/L Basically it costs 80% less to run the EV when charged on offpeak power (0-6AM). Practically free on Solar. It costs A$13.20/100km on Gas A$2.4/100km (offpeak) Peak load is basically x2 Another bonus is knowing every time I drive, it makes tRump and carbon polluters cry. I also have a massive 5L cc petrol 4WD trailer puller I re-mortgage me home every time I fillup, I am not thinking about. I just turned the engine over because it sat in the yard unused for 4 weeks. I'm being pressured to sell it 😬 #petrolprices #gasprices #electricVehicles
