The ability of unions to gain recognition & members in (new) workplaces, though new measures to increase their ability to access workplaces is expanding. So, once again, here's a key economic hypocrisy: economists often decry unions as a collective action that undermines efficiency... but at the very same time they celebrate the collective acton of capital, via shareholding that supports businesses... If you want to see classist hypcrocsy, this is it! #unions #class #politics #economics

@Eetschrijver@mastodon.social Not quite. #Caste suggests an association with race; Rishi Sunak and Kemi Badenoch, both recent or current leaders of the Conservative Party, aren't white. #Class also has more flexibility than a caste system. As a child, Alan Sugar lived in a council flat, but now he's a billionaire who sits in the House of Lords. @fesshole@mastodon.social

Picture this: thousands gathering beneath Munich's golden summer sky as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra transforms the historic Odeonsplatz into an open-air cathedral of sound 🎻 On July 10-11, this #Festival brings world-class classical music to life right before the Feldherrnhalle, where centuries of stories whisper from the stones. For just €21, you're not merely attending a concert—you're becoming part of Munich's most enchanting #Class... https://events.europa.tips/klassik-am-odeonsplatz?lang=en

When the 'feelings' of financial insecurity of the relatively well-off middle classes are seen as a more important shaper of economic policy than the actual financial insecurity of the poor.... then we know we are in a class-defined political environment. #class #politics #economics

As Lou Doyle observes, whatever we think of recent pronouncements & proposals from Andy Burnham on skilled education.... 'Nobody should expect a devolved skills strategy to undo a class-coded hierarchy that’s taken decades to settle. It will fail if we once again place the solutions to broader societal challenges on the shoulders of teachers'! Spot on: once again it blames the victims for class-based structural inequality! #politics #class #skills #educationhttps://feweek.co.uk/burnham-parity-of-esteem-starts-with-pay-not-pathways/

Hey! Starting September 23, I'm teaching a weekly online class in writing comics and graphic novels through the Alexandra Writers' Centre! The class will focus on the writing aspect of comics rather than the drawing, analyzing various ways that a good script brings out the best in the art. We will discuss the elements of a graphic novel script, the different relationships that words and pictures have in a comic’s panels, how to effectively transition the story from panel to panel, and other techniques for producing a story that best fits the comics medium. Whether you want to create a humorous comic strip, an epic adventure, or a deeply personal memoir, this class will get you started. By the end, you'll have the tools to begin your own graphic novel. https://www.alexandrawriters.org/store/p1094/writing-for-comics-and-graphic-novels.html #Comics #GraphicNovel #CreativeWriting #WritingComics #Class #CreativeWritingClass #AlexandraWritersCentre

There are a lot of #zionists in #Argentina. Not most people, but a lot. Especially among the upper #class. And they have been involved in the #military and #government, including during the #fascist #dictatorship era. Much like how the #Maya #genocide perpetrators in #Guatemala were backed by #Israel and saw the highlands similarly to how #Israelis see #Gaza. In both cases, the #CIA and the #USA generally was an even more significant sponsor, via #OperationCondor.

"To deal with the anticipatory grief ahead of the Spain v. Argentina final, NPR World Cup and Lionel Messi expert Jasmine Garsd hops on the mic to talk all things fútbol. Lace up your limited edition pink cleats: We're talking African soccer's moment, diaspora players, colonizers vs. colonies, and what's up with race erasure on Argentina's team." https://www.npr.org/2026/07/17/nx-s1-5896342/why-the-world-cup-is-race-and-class-all-the-way-down #football #soccer #WorldCup #FIFA #race #class #colonization #audio

Today was mainly a work day for the students- and for me- I got the bombarder table in place, and the bombarder coil wired into the tiny, very short trolley line system. I do hope they are able to lengthen it one day by suspending the aluminum frame from the roof. Check the image captions alt text to see details on each photo. The turquoise tube is for Tommy's Diner. I am gonna ride my bike to the studio, grab the neon and walk over to the diner to meet my students for breakfast, coffee and a neon install demo at the diner. FUN! Tomorrow the students will bombard- everyone has done it once or twice now, some students are amassing a few tubes to be bombarded and filled. I hope they get to make more tomorrow and am really excited about some of their designs. I taught the students #inkscape and we have been getting them printed to scale as blueprints at copy shops. #teaching #traveling #columbus #alttext #class #neon #bombarding #training #craft #ohio #glass #art #diner #repair

I have been pretty busy in Columbus. We are nearing the end of the second #class - using the neon shop and have almost completely set it up. The cheaper electricians take their time. The students are learning to bend nicely. Picking up where this post l left off before, I had the bombarder wired, but when I went to test it on the last day of the first class it had a loose connection- inside the grounded bombarder box, the coil was disconnected from the ceramic bushing above it. We wanted a safety light for when the bombarder was active, so I made one (the first tube pumped) and then when it broke made another, much nicer one. That is one of my favorite #neon reds- Corning Oxblood Ruby. I want to get a residency somewhere and batch a pot of it- a tricky thing to do because its a cadmium selenium glass and those spew heavy metals into the air (expensive hot air scrubber needed). Bullseye glass has one in Portland Oregon. #bombarder #red #ruby #light #favorite #color #

A story for gardeners to start us off this weekend: Many years ago on the British radio staple, Gardeners Question Time, one of the guests was a rich landed estate owner (and aristocrat). From the audience came the Q.: what would you recommend planting in a small garden... the answer: 'Even in the smallest garden one should endeavour to have at least an acre of woodland'. And there you have it: the rich have little idea about the lives of the rest of us. #gardening #class #politics #radio
