@mevenlennonbertrand@lipn.info it's a very nice story, but we should mention that the human who let the AI agent loose is Ramana Kumar (https://dblp.org/pid/30/8321.html) and I cannot possibly imagine Ramana really thought that this is a disproof of the collatz conjecture

No remote talks at PLDI this year! "However, as accepted papers are published in the PACMPL PLDI journal issue, presenting at PLDI'26 is not a requirement for paper publication. To maximize the in-person experience and limit costs, we will only support remote talks for last-minute emergencies, on a best-effort basis."

I think this is allowed by the rules laid out in the procedures of PACMPL document. I also think it's a first for a PACMPL conference to not allow remote talks? But most importantly, it's a pity. There are many good reasons why people cannot or so not want to travel to Colorado outside of "last minute emergencies".

@tito @mkerjean we're in the same club. And I'm a bit sad that I can't just resubmit to CSL -- but hey, you can! https://csl2027.github.io/

@andrejbauer@mathstodon.xyz do you use it from vs code? If yes, it's easy to hook up vs code with a docker container while mounting the directory you are working in, but nothing else. https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/devcontainers/containers

@gallais@mamot.fr @JacquesC2@types.pl is it a Lean trend or an "we acknowledge help by Claude to improve some formulations in this paper" trend?

@skinnylatte I love 1+1 Rougamo on the other side of the street as well! Do you know any way of accessing these ratings without speaking Chinese? I try to reserve asking my Chinese friends for help find Chinese food in a random place to only once in a while

@gallais@mamot.fr @ltchen@mathstodon.xyz Rocq's Prop is proof irrelevant! At least for some people. The terminology differs. Some people are saying proof irrelevant for "proofs can't matter" or "proofs are erasable for computation". In this usage, the irrelevance you probably have in mind is called "uniqueness of proofs". I learned this from @andrejbauer@mathstodon.xyz

@MonniauxD@social.sciences.re it also evens the playing field: some applicants might know about the evaluation rubrics better than others. Clearly, you want to select on the actual rubrics rather than on knowing about the rubrics, so telling people before leads to more fairness and better selection. Granted, you can also get this effect by only coming up with the rubrics after the application deadline.

@ltchen exceptional type theory by Tabareau and Pédrot (which predates the Boulier et al paper I think) has a model refuting even LPO! (well, even MP, but that's a corrollary)

@MonniauxD maybe just different default flags for extraction and you can recreate the old behaviour by changing the flags? Extraction Optimize or something like that

@jonmsterling@mathstodon.xyz but choosing not to give a remote talk was always possible! I, too, might opt not to give such a talk. But would you give your first year PhD student the advice to decline the opportunity to give a remote talk?

Replying to
@MonniauxD@social.sciences.re I don't think there's a rule allowing you to do so. This has indeed happened sometimes in the past, like allowing remote talks has sometimes (always) happened in the past. But I personally wouldn't bet on this being allowed going forward
