1/ #Gebäudemodernisierungsgesetz: "Die Eigentümer wissen am besten, was in ihren Heizungskeller passt."

6/ In particular, stationary batteries are perfectly suited to charge with cheap electricity around noon and to sell it back a few hours later in the evening. Batteries can make huge profits in a market like this. And in fact, developers rush to build them in Germany.

5/ 💡 This development indicates that what energy system people like to call "flexibility" has not increased to the same extent as the expansion of renewables in the German electricity market.
🔋 There are many reasons for this - but also many solutions. The most obvious one: we need more storage!

4/ 🌆 At the same time, evening peak prices have increased. This is because we have less low-variable cost firm generation capacity, and gas prices have also increased substantially.

3/ ☀️ Since then, wholesale prices have dropped sharply around noon. This is mainly driven by solar PV, and particularly so by old-school rooftop solar installations that receive a time-independent feed-in tariff. Prices around noon are now much lower than they used to be at night ten years ago.

7/ 🪫Unfortunately, grid connections are still a major bottleneck for batteries. But slowly, there is some progress, and more large-scale batteries are coming online - with a huge pipeline of projects still to come. (Most batteries we have so far in 🇩🇪 are home storage systems which do something else)

2/ Ten years ago, prices were generally lower at night (when demand is low) and higher at daytime (when demand is high), with two peaks in the morning and in the evening.
