Wojciech Jarosz has moved

In the 90s I used DOS and Windows, then from 1999-2008 I was primarily a Linux user (RedHat then Fedora Core mainly). After that I had money, so I switched to OS X/macOS and have been largely happy in that ecosystem.

Now after roughly 20 years not using these OSes, I decided to try to set up a dual-boot Windows/Linux system.

I’ll report my impressions here. (1/N)

For someone that is already convinced of the #enshittification of the internet problem, anyone have recommendations of books/podcasts that discuss *solutions*, or ideally debate the relative merits of different possible solution strategies?

I assume @pluralistic@mamot.fr has some suggestions?

And creating a home screen bookmark on iOS makes it almost feel like a real app.

Bought a M.2 SSD. Excited to install it when it arrived today. Unfortunately, motherboard only has the M.2. standoff, and no M.2 screw. SSD arrived also with no screw. Back in the day I’d go to RadioShack. Local Walmart, Target, Home Depot don’t have M.2 screws. So another Amazon order and the waiting game resumes .

@cebolleta@mastodon.gamedev.place I might give it a try, though kubuntu seems fine so far, and it has the benefit of allowing me to use the same build/packaging commands as my Ubuntu GitHub runners.

When it takes a long time for images or videos to load up on mastodon, is that an issue with my instance being slow, or with the poster’s instance being slow for my instance to get things from? I assume the former since each instance presumably caches. Unfortunately I’ve found that I simply don’t have the patience to wait a minute for an image to load when I tap it. Sometimes even thumbnails take multiple seconds to load and by that point I’ve scrolled on.
